Why Stephen “tWitch” Boss Is Embracing Life as an Embarrassing AF Dad

Comprised “primarily of party grooves” (think: the Cabbage Patch, renamed the “I Got This” and the Sprinkler, or “The Listener”), it’s not as much about flexing as it’s “meant to inspire joy,” tWitch noted, adding, “even though I’m a dancer, I still dance ridiculously goofy in front of my kids as much as I can to embarrass them.”

Despite his undeniable cool factor—and nearly 3 million Instagram followers—he’d argue he’s got a black belt in teen mortification.

“I have an uncanny ability to embarrass my kids—100 percent,” he insisted. With Weslie, he continued, “we breathe and she gets embarrassed, you know what I mean? And the fact that other people will think that we have a coolness factor, no, that doesn’t help at all. It actually just makes it worse.”

Though a few of Weslie’s friends follow Allison on TikTok, the teen isn’t completely convinced her parents are with it. “We figured that maybe later in life, she will come to realize, ‘Oh, maybe I did have some cool parents, actually,'” tWitch joked. “But right now, she’s very much a teenager that’s like, ‘Y’all do that over there.'”

Avengers unite! Disney’s new Avengers Campus is open.

The new area, located in Disneyland’s California Adventure theme park, replaces A Bug’s Land and includes the existing Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission: Breakout Ride on the edge of Hollywood Land.

The Avengers Campus, which opened on Friday, features a new Spider-Man attraction, a restaurant called Pym Test Kitchen, and a portal to the Doctor Strange sanctuary.

At its center is the Avengers grounds, home of Marvel’s most powerful heroes. On the launch pad on the roof is a true-to-scale Quinjet that lights up and turns its engines for the guests.

This new section of California Adventure was originally scheduled to open in July 2020, but California theme parks have closed and the launch has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Both Disney parks were able to reopen in April.

“We have the ultimate playground for Marvel,” Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, told CNBC in early April. “As fast as Kevin [Feige] and that the Marvel team can create characters and stories, we can incorporate them. “

Here’s a look inside Disney’s new Avengers campus:

Web slinging with Spider-Man

In addition to the “Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout” ride, the Avengers Campus also offers a Spider-Man ride called the Web Slingers.

The attraction takes place at the Worldwide Engineering Brigade, also known as WEB Headquarters, a company that helps bring superpowers to ordinary people. The attraction offers guests the opportunity to test a new vehicle that its young scientists have developed. When driving the vehicle, little spider bots are released and the drivers have to snap them with their new net-throwing forces.

Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure is a new ride in Disneyland that gives superhero recruits the same web sling skills as Peter Parker.

Throughout the day, visitors can see their Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man hanging around the WEB building.

Disney’s imagineers have developed a robot that can swing and spin through the air during stunts. This figure is wearing a Spider-Man suit and can see acrobatics in the air at a height of 18 meters above the roof of the WEB building. After these performances, a Spider-Man actor will swing down from the building to meet with the guests.

Avengers Campus guests can meet Spider-Man outside of the WEB headquarters.

Different Marvel characters will be lined up in different areas of the campus. For example, Doctor Strange can be found near the sanctuary, while Spider-Man can be spotted at the WEB building. Other characters like Black Widow, Black Panther, and Captain America will be stationed near the main Avengers building, and Ant-Man and the Wasp will show up near Pym’s test kitchen.

The Dora Milaje, personal bodyguards and royal security of the Black Panther, will also be present on campus, as will the mighty Thor. As more characters are introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they will likely be added to the group.

The Navy’s expensive plan to improve ageing submarines

Submarines are quiet, deadly, and expensive. Boats like the Virginia-class, a U.S. attack submarine, can cost $ 3.4 billion and take seven years to build. The Navy has ambitious goals for the future of the submarine fleet, but some issues may prevent it.

“The Navy is undergoing a 20-year plan that will cost $ 21 billion to improve its infrastructure,” said Aidan Quigley, an Inside Defense reporter who oversees the US Navy and Marines. “Right now, the infrastructure of the Navy yards is not great. They have been underfunded for the past few decades.”

The Navy currently has 68 submarines in service. And it plans to begin building two to possibly three Virginia-class attack submarines and about one Columbia-class submarine per year by about 2035 by about 2035. But, according to the Congressional Budget Office, a lack of shipyard infrastructure could delay these plans.

“The Navy is focused on improving production capacity through initiatives to increase on-time delivery and operational availability while reducing maintenance costs,” said Navy Lt. Rob Reinheimer in a statement to CNBC.

And in response to the Government Accountability Office’s January report on the Columbia Class Sourcing report, Reinheimer said:Over the past three years, with strong support from Congress, the Navy has invested over $ 573 million in strengthening existing sources and developing new suppliers. “

The recently released defense budget proposal for the 2022 fiscal year could be less than what the Navy needs to keep up with China and Russia, according to some observers.

Walmart says shops might be closed on Thanksgiving Day

Walmart said Friday its stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, joining big-box rival Target in shutting its brick-and-mortar locations on the national holiday.

With the move, two of the country’s largest discounters are showing how the pandemic has permanently influenced the industry — even as Covid-19 cases drop and the health crisis wanes in the U.S. It will mark the second straight year in which Target’s and Walmart’s stores are closed on Thanksgiving. Target had announced its decision in January.

For many years, consumers kicked off their holiday shopping in earnest the day after Thanksgiving, which is also known as Black Friday. But until last year, some retailers had been shifting the kickoff of Black Friday events earlier.

Many retailers, including Best Buy and Lowe’s, adjusted the cadence of their holiday sales season last year. Companies started sales around Halloween, but closed stores on Thanksgiving Day and put more promotions online to try to tamp down on crowds that could contribute to the virus’ spread and show appreciation for frontline workers.

Walmart announced the news about this year’s Thanksgiving to a group of store employees during its associate celebration meeting. That gathering typically coincides with Walmart’s annual shareholders’ meeting in Bentonville, Arkansas, which was held virtually for the second year in a row.

Walmart Chief Operating Officer Dacona Smith said in a news release that closing stores on the holiday “is one way we’re saying ‘thank you’ to our teams for their dedication and hard work this year.”

Walmart said it will share hours for Black Friday at later date.

The rise in Covid hospital admissions for adolescents displays new variants, says Gottlieb

Dr. Scott Gottlieb pointed out the highly transmittable Covid-19 variants on Friday as a possible cause of an increase in adolescents hospitalized with the virus in March and April.

“It’s worrying the trends in hospitalization” among teenagers, said Gottlieb, the former head of the Food and Drug Administration during the Trump administration. “I think it’s a reflection of the new, more contagious varieties.”

“We see that these variants are more contagious in all age groups, so that they affect more adults, but also more children, so that more children get sick with symptomatic Covid infection and more children are hospitalized as a result, especially B. 117”, Gottlieb told CNBC’s “The News with Shepard Smith”.

The B. 117 variant is currently the most prevalent strain in the United States with 20,915 reported cases, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In the first three months of the year, CDC researchers found that almost a third of adolescents hospitalized with Covid had to be admitted to an intensive care unit. In the meantime, 5% required invasive mechanical ventilation. Of course, CDC data shows that no teenagers died from Covid in the US in the first quarter of 2021.

CDC director Rochelle Walensky called on parents on Friday to vaccinate their teenagers against Covid, citing other teenagers who were hospitalized with Covid.

Drought grips Western United States as wildfire season begins

Nearly three-fourths of the U.S. West is grappling with the most severe drought in the recorded history of the U.S. Drought Monitor, as hot and arid conditions are set to exacerbate the threat of wildfires and water supply shortages this summer.

Parts of California, Nevada and Washington experienced sweltering triple-digit temperatures over the past week amid the drought, according to the National Weather Service, with states releasing excessive-heat warnings and heat advisories in some areas.

Conditions this spring are much worse than a year ago. In fact, nearly half of the continental U.S. is in a moderate to exceptional drought, marking the most significant spring drought in the country since 2013, according to scientists with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The U.S. Drought Monitor, a map produced by a team of academic and government scientists, started roughly two decades ago. It is updated every Thursday to display the location and intensity of drought across the country.

In California, which frequently experiences drought conditions and massive wildfires, state reservoirs are 50% lower than they should be at this time of year, an Associated Press report says, which could trigger hydroelectric power plants to shut down during the worst part of wildfire season.

The state had its worst wildfire season on record last year in terms of total acres burned, fueled in part by prolonged heat waves, drought and lightening strikes made worse by climate change.

During a meeting with the head of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection last week in Sacramento, Gov. Gavin Newsom called for a record $2 billion wildfire preparedness budget and an expansion of its fleet of aircraft to combat the fires.

California will also have its largest firefighting force in history working on the ground during peak fire season.

Alisha Herring, a communications representative for Cal Fire, told CNBC the department has completed dozens of fuel reduction projects, including controlled burns, to reduce the threat of fires this season.

“As we move deeper into the summer months, conditions will only dry out further, increasing the fire danger,” she said. “These dry conditions make it much easier for a wildfire to ignite and to burn hotter and faster than we would normally see this time of year.”

Farmers in the Northwest are also dealing with growing drought damages to crops and struggling to irrigate fields as water levels go down.

“72% of the western US is currently in ‘severe’ drought or worse. This is now the most extensive severe drought in recorded history,” climate scientist and activist Eric Holthaus wrote in a tweet. “We are in a climate emergency.”

Climate change is making drought and other extreme weather such as hurricanes and wildfires more frequent and intense.

Researchers also say that rising temperatures have pushed the American Southwest into a decades-long megadrought, resulting in declines in snowpack, lake and river levels and groundwater availability, among other things.

“After two water years of dry conditions, both California and Nevada are now 100% in drought,” according to an update on Friday from NOAA’s National Integrated Drought Information System.

“And with dire drought conditions, rapidly decreasing snowpack, and low reservoir levels, concern for wildfire season is growing,” it said.

Biden Tells Republicans Their Infrastructure Supply Is Not Good Sufficient

President Biden told Senate Republicans that their latest offer on infrastructure is not good enough.

In a statement provided to PoliticusUSA, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said:

The President spoke to Senator Shelley Moore Capito and Chairman Peter DeFazio today.

Senator Capito conveyed to the President a new offer from her group, which consisted of an about $50 billion increase in spending across a number of infrastructure programs. The President expressed his gratitude for her effort and goodwill but also indicated that the current offer did not meet his objectives to grow the economy, tackle the climate crisis, and create new jobs. He indicated to Senator Capito that he would continue to engage a number of Senators in both parties in the hopes of achieving a more substantial package. They agreed to speak again on Monday.

The President also spoke to Chairman DeFazio to thank him for all his hard work on key elements of the American Jobs Plan and to offer his support for the Committee mark-up that Chairman DeFazio will begin on Wednesday. The President and Chairman DeFazio agreed on the benefits of continued engagement with Democratic and Republican Senators as the House work on infrastructure advances this coming week.

This is Biden’s two-track strategy in action. The President is speaking to Republicans, but he is also working with Democrats to move the American Jobs Plan forward without Republican support.

President Biden is not allowing Republicans to slow down the process. He is happy to try to strike a bipartisan deal, but he is also moving his own agenda forward and not playing Mitch McConnell’s game of wasting valuable time on pointless negotiations.

Royal Household Members Declare To not Know Who Oprah Is After Meghan Speak

Oprah Winfrey? Never heard of her, claimed Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, in a new interview with The Telegraph.

Prince Edward, the son of Queen Elizabeth II and the late Prince Philip, spoke to the outlet about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s very candid interview with Oprah, in which the couple claimed that the royal family did not support Meghan after she asked for mental health help. In the interview, the Duchess of Sussex also alleged that a member of the family made a comment about how “dark” their son, Archie Harrison, would be before his birth.

In response to the interview, the royal family said in a statement, “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”

When asked about the much-discussed interview by The Telegraph, Prince Edward simply said, “Oprah, who?” Sophie said with a laugh, “What interview?”

Sophie also came to the defense of Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, who famously asked Oprah what she did for a living at Harry and Meghan’s wedding.

“You know, if you’re not into chat shows, there’s no reason why you should know who she is,” Sophie explained. “Certainly not in this country, anyway.”

Biden rejects new GOP infrastructure supply

President Joe Biden turned down a new Republican infrastructure counteroffer Friday but will continue talks with Republicans next week as the White House debates whether to give up hopes of a bipartisan deal.

During a conversation with the President on Friday, Senator Shelley Moore Capito, RW.V., proposed increasing the GOP’s scope by about $ 50 billion, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement. The Republicans recently tabled a $ 928 billion plan. Biden most recently proposed a $ 1.7 trillion package.

Biden signaled that the “current offering was not in line with its goals of growing the economy, fighting the climate crisis and creating new jobs,” she added. Despite downing the latest proposal, Biden will meet with Capito again on Monday and plans to talk to senators from both parties about a “more substantial package,” according to Psaki.

In the course of the talks, the Democrats also pushed a law on land transportation in the House of Representatives. The legislation could serve as a means to approve key portions of Biden’s $ 2.3 trillion infrastructure package through a series of mandatory expense bills.

House Transportation Committee Chairman Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., Introduced the bill on Friday. It would invest $ 547 billion over five years in roads and bridges, as well as rail and other public transportation.

CNBC policy

Read more about CNBC’s political coverage:

DeFazio has set a committee to review the bill for Wednesday, a date that could come closest to a real deadline for Biden and Senate Republicans to reach an agreement on infrastructure. Biden spoke to DeFazio separately to “offer his assistance” for the law hearing.

The parties have been trying to forge a compromise for weeks, but seem far removed from how much money they will spend on infrastructure and how the investments will be paid for. Monday marks the day Transport Secretary Pete Buttigieg said the White House wanted to see “clear direction” in the talks.

Biden might have to decide whether to pursue a massive infrastructure package with only democratic votes. Members of his own party could complicate the process: West Virginia Democratic Senator Joe Manchin on Thursday expressed doubts about using special budget rules to pass a bill in hopes of a bipartisan deal. Biden would need every Democratic vote in the Senate if a plan lacks GOP support.

Biden has told Capito that he wants a bill that includes at least $ 1 trillion in new money – or an increase in spending under the existing policy. The Republican plan would only provide about $ 250 billion in new funding.

The president also put forward alternatives to his proposal to pay a bill by raising the corporate tax rate to at least 25%, which Republicans oppose. Biden mentioned the possibility of introducing a minimum 15% corporate tax as some profitable companies manage to pay little or no tax. (The White House stressed that Biden continues to support a corporate rate hike).

However, it is unclear whether Republicans will accept Biden’s admission.

The discussions highlighted fundamental differences in terms of infrastructure and the role of the federal government in a changing economy. The White House wants a plan that not only includes upgrading transportation, broadband and water systems, but also investing in clean energy, care for dependent family members, homes and schools.

The GOP would like a closer focus on areas such as roads, bridges, airports, broadband and water systems.

Regardless of whether Biden opts for a bipartisan deal or only passes law with the support of the Democrats, he could face a backlash from the Democrats. Some progressive lawmakers, including Rep. Jamaal Bowman, DN.Y., have become suspicious of the president’s efforts to cut his original $ 2.3 trillion proposal to win Republican votes.

“If what we’ve read is true, it would be very difficult for me to vote for this bill,” he said in a statement on Thursday. “$ 2 trillion was already the compromise. President Biden cannot expect us to vote for an infrastructure deal dictated by the Republican Party.”

Still, Psaki signaled on Friday that the government has not closed the door to a bipartisan deal. She told reporters “there is still the runway left” during the talks.

However, she suggested that the White House limit the length of negotiations with the Republicans.

“There are some realities of the schedules” in the talks, she said, “including the fact that Congressman DeFazio will lead the marking of key components of the American employment plan next week.”

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, DN.Y., has told his parliamentary group that he wants to pass an infrastructure bill by July.
