Rehman Asad | Moment | Getty Images

Paulo Hoeper | Moment | Getty Images

„Viele denken, man möchte die Lebensdauer verlängern [of the old appliance] um Geld zu sparen”, sagte Keoleian.

Travis Barker “Presumably Fly Once more” 12 years after deadly airplane crash

Travis Barker reconsidering air travel, more than 12 years after surviving a fatal plane crash.

In September 2008, the now 45-year-old Blink 182 Already afraid of flying, drummer boarded a private plane in South Carolina to fly to the Los Angeles area. The little jet rolled over the runway, hit an embankment, and went up in flames. Travis and friend Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein escaped through an emergency exit. They were the only ones who survived the crash and suffered severe burns. The remaining four people, including two other friends of the drummer, died.

On Friday June 25th, Travis accidentally tweeted, “I could fly again,” and added an airplane emoji.

The rocker has not flown since the crash. He takes buses to concerts in North America and has traveled several times on cruise ships since the accident to go on a European tour with Blink-182.

Travis was hospitalized for three months after the accident and treated for third degree burns on 65 percent of his body. Travis sprinted his body on fire from the burning kerosene down a burning highway. DJ AM helped put out the flames with the shirt off his own back, Men’s Health reported.

FDA provides warning of uncommon coronary heart irritation to Pfizer, Moderna vaccines

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Friday added a warning to patient and provider fact sheets for the Pfizer and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines to indicate a rare risk of heart inflammation.

For each vaccine, the fact sheets were revised to include a warning about myocarditis and pericarditis after the second dose and with the onset of symptoms within a few days after receiving the shot.

Myocarditis is the inflammation of the heart muscle and pericarditis is the inflammation of the tissue surrounding the heart. Health officials said the benefits of receiving the vaccine still outweigh any risk.

“The risk of myocarditis and pericarditis appears to be very low given the number of vaccine doses that have been administered,” Janet Woodcock, acting FDA commissioner, said in a statement.

“The benefits of Covid-19 vaccination continue to outweigh the risks, given the risk of Covid-19 diseases and related, potentially severe, complications,” she said.

The FDA update follows a review and discussion by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices meeting on Wednesday.

There have been more than 1,200 cases of a myocarditis or pericarditis mostly in people 30 and under who received the shots, according to presentation slides from the CDC meeting.

About 300 million shots had been administered as of June 11, according to the CDC. There have been just 12.6 heart inflammation cases per million doses for both vaccines combined.

J&J pledges to halt opioid gross sales nationwide in a New York settlement for $ 230 million

New York State Attorney General Letitia James speaks during a press conference to announce criminal justice reform on May 21, 2021 in New York City, United States.

Brendan McDermid | Reuters

Johnson & Johnson has reached a $ 230 million settlement with New York State that prevents the company from promoting opioids and has confirmed that sales of such products have ceased in the United States.

New York Attorney General Letitia James’s office said in a statement Saturday the agreement prohibits J&J from promoting opioids by any means and prohibits lobbying for such products at the federal, state or local levels.

Johnson & Johnson has not marketed any opioids in the US since 2015 and completely ceased business in 2020.

As part of the settlement, the company will settle opioid-related claims and spread payments over nine years. It could also pay $ 30 million more in the first year if the state executive board signs a new law creating an opioid settlement fund, according to the press release from James’ office.

The settlement follows years of lawsuits filed by states, cities, and counties against large pharmaceutical companies over the opioid crisis that killed nearly 500,000 people in the United States over the past few decades.

Governments have argued that companies have prescribed the medication too often, causing people to become addicted and abuse other illegal forms of opioids, while companies have stated that they have distributed the required amount of the product to people with medical problems help.

“The opioid epidemic has wreaked havoc in countless communities in New York state and the rest of the nation, and millions are still addicted to dangerous and deadly opioids,” James said in a statement.

“Johnson & Johnson helped start that fire, but today they are pledging to leave the opioid business – not just in New York but across the country,” she said. “J&J no longer makes or sells opioids in the United States.”

The New York opioid lawsuit against the rest of the defendants will begin this week, according to the announcement. Other defendants in the New York lawsuit include Purdue Pharma; Mallinckrodt LLC; Endo health solutions; Teva Pharmaceuticals USA; and Allergan Finance LLC.

In a statement on Saturday, Johnson & Johnson said the settlement was “not an admission of liability or wrongdoing by the company” and “in line with the terms of the previously announced $ 5 billion settlement agreement in principle for opioid settlement “. and claims from states, cities, counties, and tribal governments. “

The company also said it will continue to defend itself against lawsuits that the definitive deal won’t resolve.

James said the state will focus on funding opioid prevention, treatment and education efforts to “prevent any future devastation”.

Engineer discovered main structural injury years earlier than

Nearly three years before a Florida condo tower collapsed, an engineer warned that the building’s failed waterproofing of its pool deck was causing “major structural damage,” according to filings.

Champlain Towers South, the 12-story condominium tower in Surfside, Florida, partially collapsed in the middle of the night on Thursday. The death toll has risen to four people, while 159 remain missing. As rescue efforts continue, the city of Surfside has released a number of documents about the building.

Among those filings is a 2018 field survey report from Morabito Consultants, which found that the concrete structural slab underneath the building’s pool needed repairs.

“Failure to replace the waterproofing in the near future will cause the extent of the concrete deterioration to expand exponentially,” the report said.

The firm recommended replacing the damaged slabs. It also found “abundant cracking and spalling” in the concrete columns, beams and walls of the parking garage.

The report did not warn of any imminent danger, and it’s still unknown what caused the building’s collapse. Surfside Mayor Charles Burkett told CNN that he had not seen the 2018 structural field survey report but said it’s “unclear right now exactly what was going on in that building.” According to The New York Times, the report helped shape plans for a multimillion dollar repair project that was set to start soon.

CNBC has reached out to Morabito Consultants for comment.

Karlie Redd responds after Wendy Williams says she is “too previous and somewhat dusty” to fulfill Lamar Odom

Ouch! Lammy’s back on these streets, roomies! It was recently announced that Lamar Odom will be a guest star on the latest season of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta because he has some sort of relationship with Karlie Redd. We have seen the two of them together on a few occasions, but Lammy previously told Wendy Williams that he is still happily single, and that he and Karlie are just friends.

You know Wendy, and she’ll always let you know what she’s thinking! After Wendy saw the trailer for LHHATL, she stopped buying the “boyfriend” story! She spoke about it on Hot Topics Wednesday, saying Karlie was “too old and a little dusty” to have a relationship with Lamar.

Karlie must have heard of Wendy’s comment because she slapped the gram with a message of her own for Ms. Williams.

“Sir Wendell, you said I am Dusty !! Where? ”Wrote Karlie. “Don’t let me post this video of you snorting in a NYC club. If you want Lamar, only day dat! ”

If Karlie’s comparison of hers and Wendy’s photos wasn’t enough, Karlie also took pictures of Lamar’s drug use in her comment section. After a fan pointed out that Lammy used to be on drugs, Karlie said he and Wendy were “a perfect couple.”

Lammy and Karlie may not have titled things yet, but it’s definitely going to be cozy! The two were spotted together at Yandy Smith’s birthday party and again at the press conference for Lamar’s celebrity boxing match.

Derek Chauvin sentenced to 22.5 years in jail George Floyd homicide

A judge sentenced former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin on Friday to 22-and-a-half years in prison for the murder of George Floyd.

That sentence was less than the 40-year maximum for the killing of Floyd, a Black man whose videotaped death with the white cop Chauvin kneeling on or near his neck for more than nine minutes on May 25, 2020, sparked massive protests nationwide and demands for reform of U.S. police departments.

But it was a decade more than the presumptive sentence for second-degree murder, the most serious of the three counts for which Chauvin, 45, was convicted at trial in April.

Jurors also convicted him of third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. Prosecutors wanted Chauvin to serve 30 years in prison, while the former cop’s lawyer asked for just probation.

Hennepin County Judge Peter Cahill gave the 18-year- police veteran Chauvin the stiffer punishment than recommended by sentencing guidelines after finding four aggravating factors in his crimes.

Those were Chauvin having abused a position of trust and authority as a cop, having treated Floyd with “particular cruelty,” committing the crime with a group of at least three other people — his fellow police officers — and the fact that children were present during the commission of the offense.

“The sentence is not based on is emotion or sympathy,” said Cahill, who later added that he did not based the sentence on public opinion, or “to send any messages.”

“But at the same time I want to acknowledge the deep and tremendous pain that all the families are feeling, especially the Floyd family, the judge said. You have our sympathies.”

Cahill said the case also “has been painful throughout Hennepin County, throughout the state of Minnesota, and even the country.”

President Joe Biden, when told about the length of Chauvin’s sentence, said, “Well I don’t know all of the circumstances that are considered, but it seems to me, under the guidelines that seem to be appropriate.”

Three of Chauvin’s fellow ex-police officers, who stood by as Chauvin killed Floyd, are awaiting trial on related Minnesota state charges next March.

All four men also face pending federal criminal charges for having violated Floyd’s civil rights in the arrest, which began after Floyd allegedly used a counterfeit $20 bill in a purchase.

Friday’s sentencing came after emotional victim impact statements from the victim’s relatives, a plea for mercy from Chauvin’s mother and Chauvin himself offering “my condolences to the Floyd family.”

“I ask about him all the time,” Floyd’s 7-year-old daughter Gianna said in a video shown at the beginning of the sentencing. “I was asking how did my dad get hurt.”

Asked what she would tell her father if she could see him, Gianna said on the video, “I miss you and I love you.”

Minnesota Assistant Attorney General Matthew Frank noted that Floyd was prone on the ground and handcuffed as Chauvin continued to restrain him with his knee, ignoring the entreaties of people in a crowd and emergency workers.

“He’s telling Mr. Chauvin, ‘I can’t breathe, I’m dying,’ ” Frank said of Floyd.

“This is 9-and-a-half minutes of cruelty to a man who was begging for his life,” the prosecutor said.

Floyd’s brother Terrence Floyd addressed Chauvin, after asking the judge to impose a maximum sentence, saying he wanted to ask him “why?”

“What were you thinking? What was in your thoughts that day, when you had your knee on my brother’s neck?” asked Terrence Floyd, who at times paused to regain his composure.

“When you knew that he posted no threat anymore. When he was handcuffed? Why didn’t you at least get up? Why did you stay there?”

Another brother, Philonise Floyd, said that since George’s murder, “I haven’t had a real nice sleep because of the nightmares I constantly have hearing my brother beg and plead for his life over and over again.”

“My family and I have been given a life sentence. We will never be able to get George back. Daddies are a daughter’s first love,” Philonise said. “He will never be able to walk Gianna down the aisle at her wedding and attend the magical moments of her life like a daddy/daughter dance, sweet 16 party, seeing her out for prom, graduations.”

Floyd’s nephew Brandon Williams said that Chauvin murdered his uncle in a “malicious and insidious display of hate and abused of power.”

“Not only did he kill George, but he also displayed a total lack of consideration for human life as he did so,” Williams said. “You saw it, I saw it, and millions of people across this country and the globe witnessed this act of hate.”

“Words simply cannot express the pain, anguish and suffering that our family and friends have endured since George’s murder” he said. “It has been truly unimaginable.”

Chauvin, in a very brief statement during the sentencing, said, “I am not able to give a full statement at this time, but very briefly, I want to give my condolences to the Floyd family.”

“There is going to be some other information in the future that will be of interest and I hope things will give you some peace of mind,” Chauvin said.

Chauvin’s mother, Carolyn Pawlenty, said, “It’s been difficult for me to hear and read what the media, public and prosecution team believe Derek to be an aggressive, heartless and uncaring person. I can tell you that is far from the truth.”

“My son’s identity has also been reduced to that as a racist. I want this court to know that none of these things are true, and that my son is a good man,” Pawlenty said.

Cahill postponed that trial in light of a federal criminal indictment issued in May against the three officers and Chauvin for violating Floyd’s civil rights. The judge said he wanted the federal case to be handled first and also wanted to put some time between Chauvin’s state trial and that of the three other cops.

On Friday, in an order denying a request for a new trial for Chauvin, Cahill wrote that Chauvin’s lawyer Eric Nelson had failed to show that the judge committed errors that deprived Chauvin of a fair trial or that prosecutors engaged in misconduct.

Cahill also rejected a request by the defense for a hearing on possible misconduct by jurors, saying Chauvin’s lawyer failed to establish that a juror gave false testimony during jury selection.

The NBA needs a mid-season event, nevertheless it wants extra incentives

On 19/2021 in Brooklyn, New York.

Elsa | Getty Images

National Basketball Association executive director Byron Spruell has some work to do ahead of the league’s next media rights deal. The NBA wants to elevate rights, and developing new concepts that attract viewers could help.

The league’s pressure on a mid-season tournament is an option, but it needs to gain momentum across its ownership group. The players’ union will have a say, and the other constituencies (team bosses, sponsors) will also get involved. And then there are basketball historians and traditionalists who are going to make a fuss.

Here NBA commissioner Adam Silver entrusts Spruell to create the blueprint for the tournament in the middle of the season. But early signs suggest he needs more incentives to make it work.

What does the viewer get out of it?

The NBA’s concept for a mid-season tournament is derived from observations made in international football leagues. European basketball clubs also have tournaments, and an NBA team manager noted the massive fan support these games are receiving.

The concept would include group games – essentially improved versions of regular season competitions – and teams that perform well would be invited to the mid-season tournament. The NBA is testing the idea for its 25th anniversary in the WNBA and is calling it the “Commissioner’s Cup In-Season Competition”.

WNBA players share a prize pool of $ 500,000. The winning team will receive $ 30,000 per player, the runner-up will receive $ 10,000 per player, and the Commissioner’s Cup title game MVP will take home $ 5,000. Google is a main sponsor of the WNBA tournament. And Amazon is the media partner that will stream the games through its Prime video service.

The NBA wanted the concept on their 75th anniversary, but the pandemic changed things. So this year the league executives will study the fanfare of the WNBA format.

“This is a visionary idea,” said long-time media director John Kosner about the tournament. “I think we’ll see more of that.”

The NBA will use money as a primary incentive for team members and players. League officials hope this reward-based business model will get players to compete against each other. And adding compensation to player charities, especially social justice organizations, could help get their approval.

The thing is, what’s in it for viewers? What will make people watch a mid-season tournament, especially when the National Football League is on? And how would the NBA retain fans?

NBA Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum holds up the Detroit Pistons card after it fell during the 2021 NBA Draft Lottery on June 22, 2021 at the NBA Entertainment Studios in Secaucus, NJ.

Add a draft selection

Kosner, who headed digital media at ESPN until 2017, found that consumers have more options outside of sport. Covid-19 has disrupted sports consumption and viewers have identified other entertainment options. For leagues outside of the NFL, innovation around their product is a necessity. Even if it means disrupting tradition.

“You have to convince people that there is a reason to watch,” said Kosner. “You have to do your product the best you can because you are no longer competing with any other sport – it’s everything else people can see and do.”

On a fall-winter sports cycle, the NBA’s 82-game season is a little stale. It has moments like the Christmas games and Thursday evenings are entertaining with the production of Turner Sports. But resting the players is still an issue and that affects national competitions.

His top superstar LeBron James, who moved west, didn’t help either.

That season, the league’s audience averaged 1.3 million viewers during its national games on ESPN, ABC and TNT. Covd-19 influenced that, but numbers before the pandemic: For the 2018/19 season, the NBA saw an average of 1.79 million viewers. And the year before James left the East (2017-18) the average was 1.89 million.

Audience numbers are a little tricky to understand, and the NBA’s product is strong for the 2020-21 postseason, including solid box office viewership with James and the Los Angeles Lakers.

But in order to expand engagement and increase interest around a tournament in the middle of the season, some in league circles came up with the idea of adding a draft pick to the stakes.

The NBA could place the pick between # 14 and # 15, protecting the lottery teams and adding an edge to the teams that win the tournament. The league may refer to it as a “Commissioner’s Cup Pick” or some other title sponsor to pay for the naming rights.

The selection rewards the team that remains competitive in the early stages of the regular season. It creates a benefit for team owners that executives can leverage in potential trading scenarios. And finally, the engagement creates as the social media channels are filled with NBA fans looking for ways to improve teams through trades and draft picks.

The NBA tossed the idea around, but so far it hasn’t had enough support. There are concerns about possible backlash and strengthening good teams with star players. If teams like the Lakers and the loaded Brooklyn Nets were expecting so many, they’d win every tournament. But in a knockout-style match similar to the NCAA March Madness games, even the power teams could have a bad night.

Another team leader advocated adding the draft pick. The person called the concept the NBA Commissioner’s Cup tournament, where each competition is a game of 7.

A look at the audience for the last postseason Games 7: The Nets vs. Milwaukee’s Bucks had an average of 6.9 million viewers. And the underdog Atlanta Hawks knocked out the power team – the Philadelphia 76ers. Game 7, which attracted 6.2 million viewers. Post-season playoffs are fun and attract sports fans.

The elimination style could also help in the regular season, said Kosner. He agreed to the inclusion of the draft pick, adding that the tournament “creates another event that [sports] Betting companies would be happy. I think it’s a good idea and I hope they do. “

“It’s more quality programming,” said Neal Pilson, former president of CBS Sports. “I can’t imagine the audience disagreeing or not watching. The idea of the mid-season tournament has an appeal to create more exciting and competitive games that otherwise might not exist during the regular season.”

NBA betting on patience

However, Pilson, now a professor in Columbia University’s sports management program, warned of player injuries.

Tournament games could increase the intensity, forcing players to struggle through gnawing injuries that could otherwise leave them exposed. After all, the NBA postseason is the most important part of the year. If key players injure themselves during a high pressure tournament game, championships could be at risk.

But with the right incentives, the league believes that even the best players would be willing to help their teammates make more money.

The draft compensation could return to the negotiating table while the NBA continues to work on the draft. Here, too, the aim is to examine how the concept works with other objects, including elements of the Basketball Africa League.

Configuring home and away games will also be challenging, and determining which part of the calendar will install the tournament is also crucial. There is talk of inviting European clubs. And placing knock games in one place – most likely in Las Vegas. Should Spruell and Silver develop the logistics of the tournament and the owners and players agree, the league officials bet that patience will grow on the fans.

The NBA has renewed interest in the all-star game. The play-in race is a fun concept. Now it’s up to explore with its 82 game campaign to make that even more exciting.

“If you start a mid-season tournament with something at stake, you’ll get people to watch,” said Kosner.

Vice President Kamala Harris visits the US-Mexico border whereas the immigration disaster persists

Vice President Kamala Harris made her first visit as Vice President to the US-Mexico border on Friday, touring immigration facilities and meeting with young women.

Speaking to reporters after her tour, Harris said the border trip increased the need to address the root causes of the surge in undocumented migrants from Central America.

“The lack of economic opportunity, very often violence, corruption and food insecurity,” said Harris, “including fear of cartels and gang violence.”

“The work we have to do is address the root causes or else we will continue to see the effects of what is happening at the border,” she said. “It will, as we have done, require a comprehensive approach that recognizes every part of it.”

Earlier this year, President Joe Biden appointed Harris to work to address these causes. In June, she visited Guatemala and Mexico, where she delivered a blunt message to potential migrants.

“I want to make it clear to people in the region who are considering making this dangerous hike to the US-Mexico border, don’t come. Don’t come,” Harris said at a press conference in Guatemala on June 7th. “I think if you get to our border, you will be rejected.”

Harris had been criticized by Republicans in recent weeks for not having personally visited the US-Mexico border.

The White House said Harris always plans to make the trip at the right time. However, the June 25 election may have been influenced by former President Donald Trump’s announcement on Tuesday to visit the June 30 border with Texas GOP Governor Greg Abbott.

A day after Trump announced his upcoming trip, the White House said Harris would visit the border on June 25. Harris’ trip took the White House press corps by surprise. Typically, West Wing aides brief a small group of reporters at least a week in advance of the President and Vice President’s travel plans to give news agencies time to organize their coverage.

Harris denied on Friday that Trump’s plans had any impact on her schedule.

“I said I was going to the border in March, so this is not a new plan,” Harris told reporters after landing in Texas. “Coming to the border … means looking at the effects of what we’ve seen in Central America.”

However, the White House said El Paso’s choice to visit was actually influenced by the former president. In his 2019 State of the Union address, Trump claimed his border wall had turned El Paso from a criminal city into a safe city that angered residents.

Biden and Harris have been criticized for pulling back on Trump-era restrictive immigration policies, even though immigrant detentions on the U.S.-Mexico border have hit 20-year highs in recent months.

Immigration remains a hot topic for both sides. Democrats and pro-immigrant activists have urged Biden to further reduce enforcement and ensure humane treatment of migrant children and families who arrive at the border.

White House officials have said for months that Harris’ efforts to curb immigration from Central America are diplomatic-centered and distinct from border security issues.

“The Vice President’s trip to Guatemala and Mexico earlier this year was about the causes, and this border visit is about the effects,” their spokesman, Symone Sanders, told reporters on Thursday. “Both trips will influence the government’s cause strategy.”

Ariana Grande’s Hair Evolution: From Her Ponytail to Her Pure Curls

You like her hair? Gee, thanks, just… read about it.

Ariana Grande continues to make her mark in the music, fashion and beauty industry. And like many icons with signature styles—we’re talking Selena Quintanilla‘s red lips, Beyoncé‘s honey blonde hair, Cardi B‘s electrifying nail designs—Grande’s hair is right up there.

It’s safe to say the star, celebrating her 28th birthday June 26, is known for her high ponytail. And back in 2014, she explained the reasoning for her signature ‘do. “Since people give me such a hard time about my hair I thought I’d take the time to explain the whole situation to everybody,” Grande wrote in a Facebook post at the time. “I had to bleach my hair and dye it red every other week for the first 4 years of playing Cat… [in Sam & Cat] as one would assume, that completely destroyed my hair.”

“I wear it in a pony tail,” she continued, “because my actual hair is so broken that it looks absolutely ratchet and absurd when I let it down.”
