Rep. Jerry Nadler provides Adam Schiff to Home Judiciary Committee

Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), senior member of the House Judiciary Committee, has announced the addition of Rep. Adam Schiff to the committee.

Rep. Nadler said in a statement to PoliticusUSA:

I am delighted that most of our distinguished members are returning to the Judiciary Committee from the last Congress. Because of their hard work, Democrats have passed 110 Judiciary Committee bills through the House and signed 53 of our bills. Under the Democratic leadership of the committee, we enshrined marriage equality in federal law; we passed the first major gun safety legislation in a generation; we have ensured that survivors of sexual assault and sexual harassment are free to tell their stories and seek justice in federal courts; we reauthorized the Violence Against Women Act; we codified lynching as a crime in federal law; we have addressed the spate of hate crimes against Asian Americans and others in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic; and we have enacted measures to strengthen antitrust laws.

I am also pleased to welcome Representatives Schiff and Ivey to the House Judiciary Committee. Each of them has unique experiences and skills that will be of great benefit to the Committee as we work to protect the rights, freedoms and privacy of the American people. I look forward to working with this talented and dedicated group of members again at this convention.

Rep. Schiff on Thursday began his campaign for the 2024 U.S. Senate for the likely open seat in California.
Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s only option is to block Democratic decisions for the House Intelligence Committee. There’s nothing McCarthy can do about Schiff serving on the Judiciary Committee.

It would take a majority of the entire House to remove Representatives Schiff, Swalwell and Omar from their committee duties, and members of the Republican faction have already said they would vote no if such a resolution were presented.
