Covid Delta variant doesn’t pose an imminent risk to the USA

Dr. Scott Gottlieb told CNBC on Wednesday that he believes enough Americans are fully vaccinated to delay the risk of the Delta-Covid variant.

“The question is, are there enough unvaccinated people for this to get into the population and spread further? I happen to think it unlikely that this could pose a threat until the fall,” the former Food and Drug Administration commissioner said “Squawk Box”.

Gottlieb’s comments come as speculation mounts that Britain may lift all lockdown measures in England for Jan.

The most severe cases with the Delta variant appear to occur in unvaccinated or only partially vaccinated people, said Gottlieb. “It appears to be a more dangerous variant. However, two doses of the vaccine appear to be very protective.”

“People who are fully vaccinated are, in my opinion, fairly well protected against this new variant based on the evidence available,” added Gottlieb, who headed the FDA in the Trump administration from 2017 to 2019. He now sits on the board of directors at vaccine company Pfizer.

On Tuesday, White House senior medical advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci, the importance of fully vaccinating Americans to protect against the Delta variant. Currently, Fauci accounts for more than 6% of US coronavirus infections that scientists have genetically sequenced.

The delta variant is now becoming the dominant variant in the UK. In the USA and Great Britain, around 53% of adults are now fully vaccinated against Covid. However, Gottlieb said England’s decision to postpone administering the second dose in order to give more people first shots “likely opened the door to this spread a little further”.

At a White House briefing Tuesday, Fauci cited examples of Covid vaccines from Pfizer and AstraZeneca – which are used in the UK but not the US – and said they were about 33% at protecting against the Delta after a dose Variant effective. WASHINGTON – A rare bottle of champagne produced before the Titanic embarked on its doomed maiden voyage, before the globe was engulfed in World War I, and before Albert Einstein published his groundbreaking general theory of relativity, is up for auction this week.

Acker, the oldest and largest wine auction house in the country, is expected to auction 877 bottles of vintage champagne. Underneath is a bottle of Brut Imperial Moet & Chandon from 1911.

The entire sale, which includes more than 900 separate lots, is expected to sell for a staggering $ 10 million. The champagne vintages range from 1911 to 1943 and take the form of 323 magnums, 10 Jeroboams, two Methusalems and 30 half bottles.

Richard Juhlin, who holds the world record for tasting more than 13,000 bottles of champagne, shared his 1911 tasting rating of the Moet & Chandon ahead of the auction.

“The taste is exceptional with excellent length and intensity. Here, the dark forest aromas and smokiness were accompanied by a delicious caressing sweetness of dried fruit and crème brûlée, ”he wrote, adding that the wine’s mousse was“ very faint, but nice when “poured”.

The flavors are “deep and wooded with layers of wet stump, sculpted autumn leaves and black Vaucluse truffle”.

Johnson & Johnson CEO Alex Gorsky reiterated Wednesday that people will likely need to receive additional doses of the Covid-19 vaccines alongside the annual flu shot for the next “several years.”

People will need to get the Covid booster shots until herd immunity is achieved on a global level and world leaders and scientists are able to limit the spread of highly contagious variants, Gorsky said during The Wall Street Journal’s Tech Health conference.

“We could be looking at this tagging along with the flu shot, likely over the next several years,” he said, referring to the Covid vaccines.

His comments come a day after U.S. health officials urged Americans to get vaccinated to keep the Delta variant, first identified in India, from proliferating across the country.

J&J’s vaccine requires just one jab, unlike Pfizer’s and Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccines, which currently require two doses given three to four weeks apart. All three vaccines have been shown to be highly effective against Covid, though executives now say they expect that strong protection to wane over time.

As a result, most drugmakers and some scientists now say people will likely need a booster shot of the Covid-19 vaccines and possibly additional shots each year, just like for the seasonal flu.

BioNTech CEO Ugur Sahin told CNBC in a recent interview that researchers are seeing a decline in antibody responses against the virus after eight months.

Gorksy has previously stated that people will likely need to get Covid shots annually.

During the WSJ event Wednesday, Gorsky said the company is looking for new partners as it develops vaccines that target variants.

Former Senate advisor condemns Manchin and GOP as “enemies of democracy”
