After the worry of DC bombs, Rep. Mo Brooks understands “citizen anger”

Alabama Republican MP Mo Brooks responded Thursday to a bomb threat that forced the evacuation of numerous buildings on Capitol Hill by saying he understood “civil anger against dictatorial socialism”.

The statement quickly drew fierce criticism of Brooks, who voted to overturn President Joe Biden’s election and is facing a lawsuit from California Democratic MP Eric Swalwell for accusing him of contributing to the deadly invasion of the Capitol on January 6 to have.

“Tell us you’re on the terrorist’s side without telling us you’re on the terrorist’s side,” Swalwell wrote on Twitter in response to Brooks’ testimony.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger, a Republican from Illinois, described Brooks’ testimony in a Twitter post as “nasty”. Kinzinger was one of the few Republicans who voted for the impeachment of former President Donald Trump for invading the Capitol.

The alleged bomb threat, 49-year-old Floyd Ray Roseberry of Grover, North Carolina, surrendered and was taken into custody by police in front of the Library of Congress, where he was in his pickup truck, after an hour-long standoff, claiming he had explosives.

In social media videos posted on Facebook, Roseberry repeatedly referred to a “revolution” and asked Biden to send someone to speak to him.

Brooks said in his statement that “although the motivations of this terrorist are not yet publicly known … in general I understand the anger of citizens directed at dictatorial socialism and its threats to liberty, liberty and the fabric of American society . “

He added that the way to stop socialism is to have “patriotic Americans” fight back in the coming election cycles.

“I strongly encourage patriotic Americans to do just that, more than ever. Frankly, America’s future is in jeopardy,” said Brooks.

Brooks, a member of the House of Representatives who has been running for the Senate since 2011, had negotiated with Trump in late 2020 about ways to overturn the victory of Biden’s electoral college.

On January 6, when Congress was due to meet in the Capitol to confirm Biden’s victory, Brooks spoke nearby at a Trump-organized rally calling on Republicans to reject the election results.

At the “Stop the Steal” rally, Brooks urged a crowd of Trump supporters to “start by name and kick the ass.” Trump, in his own speech, urged the crowd to march to the Capitol: “If you don’t fight like hell, you will have no more land,” he said.

Shortly after Congress convened to confirm Biden’s victory, a mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, derailed the process and forced lawmakers to flee their chambers and go into hiding. Since then, more than 500 arrests have been made in connection with the Capitol Rebellion.

In March, Swalwell filed a civil lawsuit against Brooks and Trump, as well as Donald Trump Jr. and former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani, accusing them of “being wholly responsible for the injuries and destruction caused by the mob.”

Brooks has asked a judge to dismiss him as a defendant on the lawsuit, partially saying that his speech at the January 6 rally was given as part of his membership in Congress.

Thursday’s bomb threat forced the evacuation of the Library of Congress as well as the Supreme Court building, the Cannon House office building and the offices of the Republican National Committee. Congress was on hiatus so there were fewer people on the hill.

Police negotiators began communicating with Roseberry, and snipers took up positions around his pickup truck parked on the sidewalk in front of the government building. He finally got out of his truck and surrendered without resistance, the police said.

US Capitol Police chief Tom Manger said Roseberry appeared to have been grappling with the recent loss of family members as well as “other issues he has faced.”

Nearly 5,000 people commented on Tia’s post, saying that Grandpa Gene, aka Mark, had aged like good wine and was overwhelmed by its looks. One commented: “Still the best grandpa in history. J&J appoints Joaquin Duato as CEO efficient January 3, changing Alex Gorsky

Johnson & Johnson announced on Thursday evening that Joaquin Duato will become the company’s new CEO effective January 3, replacing previous chairman Alex Gorsky.

Duato will also be appointed to the company’s board of directors following his move to the C-suite role. Previously, he was Vice Chairman of the company’s Executive Committee.

“I have had the pleasure to work closely with Alex for many years and I thank him for his outstanding leadership,” said Duato in a statement. “I am pleased that I will continue to benefit from his guidance and his findings in the future.”

Gorsky, who was CEO for nine years and will now serve as Executive Chairman, said in a statement that “the time is right for me personally as I am more focused on my family for family health reasons.”

During Gorsky’s time at the helm, J&J faced a wave of lawsuits over its talc-based baby powder and other products and was named in state opioid lawsuits.

Last month, a group of attorneys general reached a $ 26 billion settlement with three of the country’s largest US drug dealers and J&J after claims the companies fueled the deadly opioid epidemic.

According to the settlement proposal, distributors McKesson, Cardinal Health and AmerisourceBergen are expected to pay a total of $ 21 billion, while J&J is expected to pay $ 5 billion over a nine-year period.

J & J’s vaccine was originally touted as a blessing by federal health officials when it was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in late February, as it only requires one dose and can be stored at refrigerator temperatures for months.

Since then, it has suffered from poor perception of its overall effectiveness, concerns about rare side effects, and production delays.

In April, the FDA announced it was adding a warning label to J & J’s Covid vaccine, listing blood clotting as a rare side effect. In July, the FDA announced it was adding another warning to the J&J label, stating that the shot was linked to a serious but rare autoimmune disease called Guillain-Barre Syndrome.

Bomb risk on Capitol Hill: Floyd Ray Roseberry surrenders

A North Carolina man surrendered to police Thursday afternoon hours after telling them he had parked a bomb in his truck in front of the Library of Congress on Capitol Hill.

This threat from suspect Floyd Ray Roseberry resulted in the evacuation of the library, the Supreme Court, the Cannon House office building and the Republican National Committee offices.

It also sparked a massive police reaction in an area where the Capitol complex was forcibly raided by supporters of then-President Donald Trump seven months earlier.

“He got out of the vehicle and surrendered, and the tactical units that were nearby took him into custody without incident,” said US Capitol police chief Tom Manger of 49-year-old Roseberry.

“He gave up and didn’t fight back,” said Manger. “As far as we could tell, it was just his decision to surrender at this point.”

Manger said there was a propane canister in his black pickup.

But the boss added: “At the moment we think that’s safe.”

Manger also said, “At the moment we have no evidence that he traded with anyone else, but that is part of the ongoing investigation.”

A bomb was not found in a search of Roseberry’s vehicle, but possible bomb-making materials were found from his truck, according to a US Capitol Police statement.

Roseberry, who last lived in Grover, North Carolina, posted several videos of his truck on Facebook in the hours before his surrender and addressed himself directly to President Joe Biden, whose resignation he demanded. He also called for US air strikes on the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Roseberry claimed in the video that he had a 7-pound barrel of gunpowder and 2.5 pounds of the explosive tannerite in the truck, and suggested that there were four more bombs in the DC area.

He also said that his wife had cancer and that health insurance would not cover some of the treatments for her.

“I promised my wife that I would be home on Sunday no matter what home it is. I’ve cleared my conscience with God, ”said Roseberry.

The White House received updates from law enforcement during the stalemate.

Facebook removed Roseberry’s videos and page after reporters found the news.

Manger said Roseberry suffered some family losses, including his mother, who “recently passed away”.

“There were other issues that he was dealing with,” said the boss.

Manger said the Capitol Police will work with the District of Columbia District Attorney’s office to determine what criminal charges will be brought against Roseberry.

The chief said Roseberry had a North Carolina criminal record but nothing that seemed “serious”.

Manger had previously told reporters that Roseberry pulled his truck onto the sidewalk in front of the Library of Congress at around 9:15 a.m.

When Capitol Police responded to a call regarding the truck, “The truck driver told the responding officer that he had a bomb and what the officer said appeared to be a detonator in the man’s hand,” said Manger.

“So we immediately evacuated the surrounding buildings,” said Manger.

Congress and the Supreme Court were not currently in session, which reduced the number of people who would normally work near the Capitol Hill complex.

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority said subways bypass the Capitol South station because of the incident.

Sydney Bobb, a student at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, told CNBC that she was taking a class in the United Methodist Building on Capitol Hill when she saw Roseberry in his truck outside the Library of Congress.

“I look up and see a guy throwing up [$1 bills] from his truck, “said Bobb, who took a photo of the bizarre scene that she posted on Twitter.

“I heard him say he had a bomb on him.”

During the standoff, Roseberry communicated with authorities by writing on a dry-erase board he had in the vehicle.

According to Manger, he refused to use a phone that was sent to him on a police robot.

One of the explosives Roseberry claimed in his videos, tannerite, is popular with target shooting.

Tannerite is a binary explosive. Each part is not an explosive element individually, but in combination they are flammable.

The overuse of tannerite has been responsible for several gender reveal parties that went wrong in recent years, and was also made famous by the Netflix show “Tiger King”.

How many more terrorist attacks will Trump inspire?

It’s great that this person surrendered peacefully, but the uprising that Trump started on January 6th is not over yet. In the case of the Library of Congress, the suspect called for President Biden to step down during his Facebook livestream.

Trump is no longer in office, but he is still fueling the domestic terror threat by repeating his lies about the 2020 elections. Fox News also has some responsibility as it continues to give Donald Trump airtime.

Today’s Trump terrorist just wanted attention. The nation may not be as lucky next time around, which is why Trump and his indigenous terrorist cell disguised as a political movement must be held accountable.

Giving “Queen & Slim” energy, the couple posed on and near a motorcycle on what appears to be a countryside, dirt road. Danielle opted for a partial bridal look featuring a wedding veil, pearl corset and earrings to match. Her bae rocked a sleeveless, black leather vest with a white top and black, wide brim hat. These looks were also pulled together by Kelly.

“We gonna ride til we die baby,” Danielle captioned the post. “Time to wake up the east coast…”

The beautiful pair welcomed their first child, a daughter named Freeya in 2019, according to Essence. Dennis asked for Danielle’s hand in marriage shortly after and the news was announced to the world in January 2020.

Macy’s sees an enormous hole between the suburban and concrete response to the Covid Delta

Macy’s said Thursday that consumers across the country shop differently depending on where they live and how they feel about Covid.

During the retailer’s final fiscal quarter, he said, some people still felt uncomfortable walking into a store, especially in urban areas like New York City.

“Right now there is definitely a different psychology between suburban and urban customers,” said CEO Jeff Gennette during a conference call on the results.

Many of Macy’s stores in the suburbs are better than in 2019, he said, as consumers are more comfortable in those areas with more space to walk around.

The company’s urban businesses remain the most challenged as international tourism has not yet returned and people are more careful about getting stuck in crowded spaces. Gennette cited Macy’s flagship Manhattan location, Herald Square, as an example of a store where visitors have not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels.

The locations in more densely populated subways will recover more when people return to work, Gennette added. But due to the expanding delta variant, the back-to-office plans are shifting, he warned.

“There are still parts of the country where the business of doing business … is down and it doesn’t correlate with vaccination rate, it’s really the psychology of those customers,” said the CEO.

The new Covid-19 cases in the US are increasing again the fastest since the winter surge. The number of cases is particularly severe in southern states such as Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi, where vaccination rates are low.

Macy’s shares rose more than 15% in early trading after the department store chain raised its annual sales and earnings outlook on positive results for the second quarter.

Toys R Us is coming to greater than 400 Macy’s shops subsequent 12 months

The Toys R Us website is now operated by the Macy’s department store chain.

Macy’s works with the owner of Toys R Us to offer a selection of toys, games and other gadgets for children in more than 400 stores in the chain of stores and online.

Toys R Us’s shop-in-shops in Macy’s will be launched next year, the companies announced on Thursday. A larger selection of Toys R Us merchandise is now available on Macy’s website.

“Our toy business has grown exponentially for Macy’s over the past year,” said Nata Dvir, Macy’s chief merchandising officer. “Our partnership enables Macy’s to significantly expand our presence in this category.”

The hope, Dvir added, is that shoppers will visit Macy’s in search of toys and pick up a few other items like clothes or makeup along the way. Macy’s could take advantage of the upswing as it faces tougher competition online and from major retailers Walmart and Target.

More specifically, Macy’s is about the millennial mom, CEO Jeff Gennette said on a conference call Thursday. When these younger parents visit Macy’s to buy toys for their children, they often buy other higher-margin items in addition, he said.

The company raised its outlook for fiscal 2021 after reporting fiscal second quarter results and revenue that beat analysts’ estimates as it saw new customers online.

Brand management company WHP Global acquired a majority stake in Tru Kids, the parent company of the Toys R Us, Babies R Us and Geoffrey the Giraffe brands, earlier this year.

Tru Kids, backed by Solus Alternative Asset Management and funds managed by private equity group Ares Management, bought the brands and intellectual property of Toys R Us after the latter filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September 2017 after a crippling Christmas season 2017 will emerge from bankruptcy alone and drive it into liquidation.

Tru Kids opened two pop-up locations in shopping malls for Toys R Us in 2019, but they closed earlier this year due to poor performance during the Covid pandemic. WHP Global had then vowed to reopen the stationary stores at some point.

WHP Global didn’t say how long it would work with Macy’s.

As part of the agreement, Toys R Us’s website will be operated by Macy’s, the companies said. Target ran the iconic toy chain’s website for a while, but that relationship fell through in July 2020.
