George Clooney remembers his ‘catastrophe’ proposal to spouse Amal

one fine day George Clooney engaged with Amal Clooney– and it didn’t go as planned.

The ER actor recently recalled the moment he popped the question to Ms Amal. But it wasn’t exactly smooth sailing. As George put it in an Oct. 21 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, “It was a disaster.”

As the 61-year-old explained, his plan was for Amal to discover the ring over dinner while music from his aunt played Rosemary Clooney played. As soon as the tune began, George challenged Amal to reach for a box of lighters to relight a candle he had conveniently blown out.

“I’m like, ‘I think there’s a lighter, might light the candle again … I think there’s a lighter in that little box,'” George recalled, “and she pulls out this thing, this little drawer, and there there’s a diamond ring in there.”

How did Amal react? Well, George didn’t think it clicked right away. “She looks at it and says, ‘There’s a ring in there,'” he joked while rolling his eyes. “Like someone left a ring there years ago”
