Kate McKinnon‘s Carole Baskin, To meet John Cameron Mitchell‘s Joe Exotic.
UCP’s Tiger King miniseries found its title star in Mitchell, the actor, writer, and director who currently stars Aidy BryantChef’s on Shrill. He will compete against Bryant’s SNL co-star McKinnon in the long-awaited miniseries announced back in April 2020. Back then, our Tiger King obsession was new (thanks to a podcast and a Netflix documentary). and so was the global pandemic that confined us to our homes and had nothing better to do than look and talk about Tiger King.
Based on the Wondery podcast Joe Exotic: Tiger King, the series records the rivalry between big cat owners Carole and Joe as they attempt to shut down his zoo, and he sets off to uncover their past.
“I am thrilled to take on the role of this modern folk anti-hero,” Mitchell said in a statement. “Joe and I are the same age and like him I grew up strangely in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas. I feel like I know a little bit about this guy and his desperate attempt to invade an inhospitable world.”
Mitchell is perhaps best known for writing, directing, and starring in 2001 Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
