The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s updated masking guidelines mark a significant shift in the pandemic, the dean of Brown University’s School of Public Health said Thursday.
“Basically, it is recognized that vaccinated people will go back to normal and be able to do most of the things we did before the pandemic, and this is really, really great news,” said Dr. Ashish Jha.
The new CDC rules state that fully vaccinated individuals no longer need to wear a face mask or stay 6 feet away from others in most outdoor or indoor areas.
Jha told CNBC’s “The News with Shepard Smith” that he believes states should leave internal mask mandates for another month so that people shot April 19 could be fully vaccinated. On April 19, President Joe Biden approved the Covid vaccination for all US citizens aged 18 and over.
Jha also advised unvaccinated children to keep wearing masks.
“I’m going to ask my unvaccinated 9 year old to wear a mask when we go to a place like a grocery store indoors because I’m going to assume there are other unvaccinated people who are maskless … We have to have some kids wear masks for a while, “said Jha.
