“The blue wall is crumbling,” says the previous NAACP CEO, the police will change essentially after Chauvin’s judgment

Former NAACP president and CEO Cornell Brooks said policing will change radically after a jury found former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin guilty of all three charges of murdering the unarmed black George Floyd.

“The blue wall is crumbling. In other words, we have police chiefs, we have the police base in this country and we just say, ‘This is too much.’ What we need, however, is that the police and the cops not only notice that the wall is breaking, but that they have to tear it down, ”Brooks said.

Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo testified against Chauvin on day 6 of the murder trial. Meanwhile, Arradondo said Chauvin violated the guidelines by tucking Floyd’s neck under his knee for more than nine minutes.

Brooks told host Shepard Smith that Arradondo’s testimony is an example of crossing the “blue wall” and a step that police forces across the country must follow.

“You have to step over that wall into the community and be in moral solidarity with people who just say, ‘We want to be treated as people, we want to be seen as citizens, not the objects of your batons, and your tasers and your bullets and Your brutality, “said Brooks.

Judge Peter Cahill announced Tuesday that the jury had found Chauvin guilty of second degree murder, third degree murder and second degree manslaughter. Cahill said the sentencing will take place in eight weeks.
