The 1/6 committee will likely be non-partisan as Rep. Adam Kinzinger is sure

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) became the first House Republican to announce that he would vote yes to the creation of the 1/6 committee.

Kinzinger said the committee is not his preferred option, but he will vote for it:

The first Republican to stand in favor of the Committee on Jan.

“I’ll be voting for it today,” @AdamKinzinger says of the select committee. “It’s not my favorite option … but the point is that we can’t pretend January 6th didn’t happen.” Https://t.co/3jiEMUdVau

It will be interesting to see how many of his Republicans in the House of Representatives join him in supporting a 1/6 assault investigation. The chances that House minority leader Kevin McCarthy will nominate Kinzinger to the committee with one of his five selections is close to zero.

There has been speculation that Spokeswoman Pelosi might nominate a Republican with one of her eight choices to the committee, which is possible if the spokeswoman wants to see a more bipartisan committee, but also a Republican who has pledged to learn the truth about the attack .

A Kinzinger or a Liz Cheney would turn the tables on the Republicans and root out their topic of conversation that the special committee was partisanship.

Rep. Kinzinger’s vote is a loss to Republicans who hoped to create the false impression that partisan politics are driving the investigation.

Democrats can now say that the vote to set up the committee was bipartisan, as Republicans voting against this committee will look like domestic terrorism enablers and supporters.
