Rachel Maddow ambushes Mitch McConnell for attempting to pursue Trump’s impeachment each methods

Rachel Maddow turned against Mitch McConnell (R-KY), the Senate minority chairman, Monday night for trying to pursue the impeachment in both directions by initially arguing it was too early to begin a trial but now it’s too late.

“McConnell refused to call the Senate back so they could start the Senate trial while Trump was still president,” said the MSNBC host. “When Trump was gone, McConnell voted with all the other Republicans that this process should really have started while he was president, and now it’s too late.”

Although McConnell initially wanted to create the impression that he was satisfied with Trump’s impeachment and open to belief, he is really no different from his Republican counterparts, who want to oppose the process altogether.

Maddow said:

McConnell refused to recall the Senate so they could begin the Senate trial while Trump was still President. They only started in court after Trump left. And when Trump was gone, McConnell voted with all the other Republicans to say that this process really should have started while he was president, and now it’s too late. It’s like your PE teacher got you to keep doing laps after the doorbell rang and then sent you to the headmaster’s office because you were late for the next class. “You were the one who made me run laps!” “Go to the principal’s office, what did I tell you?” The Democrats would have liked to see Trump put on trial while he was president. It was Mitch McConnell who stopped them, and now Mitch McConnell is saying, “Well, it’s too late now.” He cannot be tried while he is president, nor can he be tried after he is president. But Senator McConnell wants everyone to know how badly they want Donald Trump to be held accountable for what he has done.

McConnell tries both ways

For four years, Mitch McConnell humored Donald Trump and refused to hold him accountable for abusing his office and trampling the entire U.S. Constitution.

All McConnell cared about was ramming through court appointments and passing tax cuts for the rich.

During Trump’s first impeachment trial in the Senate, McConnell didn’t even allow witnesses. He and almost every GOP senator voted to acquit the corrupt and dangerous president.

If McConnell and his Republican colleagues had done their job during Trump’s first impeachment trial, the country would not have had to get through the tragic events of January 6.

Mitch McConnell is trying to go both ways in impeachment, but he will never be able to escape his role in allowing Donald Trump to bring American democracy to its knees.
