Indian airline IndiGo expects to succeed in pre-Covid capability by the top of 2021

SINGAPORE – India’s low-cost airline IndiGo may struggle with its international operations, but the division could fully recover by the end of the year, the airline’s chief executive told CNBC this week.

Ronojoy Dutta of IndiGo, operated by InterGlobe Aviation, said the division between domestic and international segments for the airline was a “story of two cities”.

The domestic recovery has been strong, while the overseas recovery has brought “all the challenges of Covid and testing and quarantine,” he told CNBC’s Street Signs Asia on Monday.

The country last week extended a ban on international commercial passenger flights to the end of February. Local trips were allowed to resume in May.

IndiGo is a low cost airline that mainly operates domestic flights and is India’s largest passenger airline.

“We’re only struggling with 28% of our capacity from Covid,” he said of international flights. However, domestic activities have reached 80% of the prepandemic level.

“I think we should reach 100% inland capacity by April at the latest,” Dutta predicted. “Internationally will open more slowly, but by the end of the calendar year 2021 we should also be at the level before Covid internationally.”

IndiGos Dutta also sees the airline’s prospects as positive after the end of the coronavirus situation.

“Once the pandemic crisis is behind us, we see many growth opportunities,” he said.

He said India has very little air traffic penetration and there will be “a large amount of pent-up demand” when the economy recovers.

Silento, the rapper best known for the popular dance and song “Watch Me (Whip / Nae Nae)”, is behind bars after being arrested and charged with the murder of his cousin’s death, according to authorities.

The 23-year-old rapper is accused of killing 34-year-old Frederick Rooks, according to DeKalb County police. According to the Atlanta Journal constitution, Silento was detained in DeKalb County Jail for a murder.

GM introduces Cadillac CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwing efficiency sedans

DETROIT – Cadillac is expected to lead General Motors’ plans for all-electric vehicles, but has a few surprises in store for traditional transmissions.

The automaker unveiled two new Cadillac sedans on Monday evening, including the 2022 CT5-V Blackwing. The car is powered by a 6.2-liter, supercharged V-8 engine that has 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque. It has an estimated top speed of more than 200 mph, according to the company.

“The Blackwing name represents Cadillac’s highest level of execution,” said Brandon Vivian, Cadillac’s executive chief engineer, during a press conference. “We are very proud of these vehicles. Simply put, they represent the pinnacle of Cadillac performance craftsmanship and technology.”

“The CT5-V Blackwing is the most powerful Cadillac ever,” said Vivian.

Cadillac also unveiled a new Blackwing version of its smaller CT4-V sedan. This car has a 3.6 liter V6 engine with two turbochargers, 472 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. Its top speed is estimated at 189 mph, the company said.

Prices start at $ 59,990 for the CT4-V Blackwing and $ 84,990 for the CT5-V Blackwing. The cars are expected to arrive at dealerships this summer. Reservations for both vehicles were opened on the Cadillac website Monday evening.

The Blackwing name is pretty new to Cadillac. It was first used in 2019 as the name of a V-8 engine for the CT6-V, a full-size limited-edition performance sedan. The company now uses it as the name for its top-of-the-line variants under Cadillac’s V-Series performance brand.

Both Blackwing V-Series models have advanced high-performance braking systems that have been extensively tested on tracks and roads. A six-speed manual transmission is standard on both vehicles. A 10-speed automatic transmission is optional.

GM has announced that Cadillac will lead its plans for all-electric vehicles. It has expectations for a majority, if not all, of its luxury Cadillac cars and SUVs that will be sold as electric vehicles worldwide by 2030.

The entire company last week announced plans to be carbon neutral by 2040, led by “efforts” to be all electric vehicles by 2035.

Disney is adding another TV show to its already stacked list of Marvel content being developed for Disney +.

On Monday, the company announced that it has signed a five-year contract with Black Panther director Ryan Coogler and Proximity Media to create television programming exclusively for Disney.

As part of this deal, Coogler will create a series in Wakanda, the fictional African country of Black Panther. There are currently almost a dozen Marvel shows in the works for the streaming service.

The deal also allowed Coogler’s company to develop television programming for other areas within Disney.

“Ryan Coogler is a unique storyteller whose vision and scope have made him one of the greatest filmmakers of his generation,” said Bob Iger, executive chairman of the Walt Disney Company.

Not only did Coogler’s “Black Panther” stand out at the global box office, grossing $ 1.3 billion worldwide, it was also the first superhero film to receive a nomination for Best Picture Ever.

Known for “Fruitvale Station” and “Creed”, the director was due to start filming “Black Panther” in March, but filming was halted after the sudden and unexpected death of star Chadwick Boseman. Boseman, 43, had battled colon cancer for four years but had hidden his diagnosis from the public.

Some health care providers have regularly withheld doses of vaccine for Covid-19 to ensure supplies are in place when people come back to get their second shots, an official on President Joe Biden’s coronavirus response team said Monday.

Andy Slavitt, a senior advisor to Biden’s Covid Response Team who previously served in the Obama administration, said health care providers shouldn’t withhold vaccine doses. He said the practice is actually causing some vendors to cancel appointments and preventing some Americans from getting their first shots.

“We want to make it clear that we understand why healthcare providers did this, but that it doesn’t have to and shouldn’t,” he told reporters during a coronavirus briefing, adding that US officials were aware of supplies of Covid vaccines were states often unpredictable during the early rollout in late December.

“We fully understand that this is a direct result of the unpredictability that many states and suppliers have had about the number of doses they would receive,” he said. “This is one reason we announced last week that the federal government would provide a continuous three-week window for vaccines to be shipped. With this move, states and vaccine providers are making their first-dose allocation for vaccination faster than many people are using so quickly and fairly as possible because they now have the predictability “that second shots will be on time.

Biden is trying to accelerate the pace of vaccination in the US after a slower-than-expected rollout under the administration of former President Donald Trump. U.S. officials also hope vaccine supplies will increase after Johnson & Johnson’s Covid-19 vaccine was approved by the Food and Drug Administration for emergency use. The FDA could give the OK this month.

The Department of Health and Human Services announced in August that it had signed a contract with Janssen, J & J’s pharmaceutical subsidiary, worth approximately $ 1 billion for 100 million doses of its vaccine. The deal gives the federal government the opportunity to order another 200 million cans, according to the announcement.

Unlike Pfizer and Moderna’s vaccines, J & J’s vaccine only requires one dose, which makes logistics easier for healthcare providers.

Dr. Michael Osterholm told NBC’s Meet the Press that the government should try to give as many initial doses of vaccine as possible, especially for those over 65, before there is a potential increase in overseas mutation-related cases.
