President Joe Biden had a very simple answer when asked about Republican efforts to oust Representative Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) For refusing to endorse former President Donald Trump’s lies about the 2020 general election.

“I don’t understand Republicans,” Biden told reporters as he left Taqueria Las Gemelas, a northeast DC restaurant on Union Market that benefited from a restaurant aid program included in the US rescue plan.

Q: “What did you get?”

President Biden: “Tacos and some enchiladas.”

Biden has typically avoided commenting at length on Congressional struggles, preferring to focus on passing laws his administration believes are popular with the majority of Americans as the country continues to face the economic fallout from the Covid-19 Pandemic survives.

Democrats have come out loud in favor of Cheney, the made headlines for breaking with Republican leadership He supported a 9/11-style commission in the January 6th Capitol Rebellion and was one of the few Republicans who voted to charge Trump with inciting a rebellion against Congress.

I spoke to the Washington Post this morning. House majority chairman Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) Said, “Cheney’s greatest offense, apparently, is that she has principles and believes in the truth.” And earlier this week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., Mocked the House GOP leadership with a “Help Wanted” ad when she was led by Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., Dem House minority chairmen, their efforts to remove Cheney intensified their position.

“It is known that for a litany of very Republican reasons, the House GOP leaders are trying to oust MP Liz Cheney from her position as Chair of the House Republican Conference – her oldest woman on the GOP leadership – she will not lie , it is not. Not humble enough, she’s like a friend who cares about the wrong team and more, ”the ad reads, referring to criticism of Cheney by Republican men.
