Former Trump State Division aide arrested for position in Capitol assault

The first Trump appointee was arrested in connection with the Capitol attack when a former State Department aide was arrested in Virginia.

Politico reported:

The FBI arrested Federico Klein, a former State Department aide, Thursday on charges related to the January 6th storming of the Capitol. This was the first known instance of an appointed President Donald Trump to be prosecuted in connection with attempting to block Congress from confirming President Joe Biden’s victory.

Klein, 42, was taken into custody in Virginia, said Samantha Shero, spokeswoman for the FBI’s Washington Field Office. Details of the charges against him were not immediately available.

If the Trump-appointed people are caught and charged, it will be impossible for the Republican Party to apply its “bad apples few” theory and to blame the rioters for attempting to overthrow the US administration.

The attackers clearly had administrative help when the Capitol Police leadership testified that Trump administration officials delayed the deployment of the National Guard to the Capitol during the attack. A person Trump appointed to a role in the executive branch of the federal government participated in an attack on one of the other equal branches of government.

The DOJ has turned to higher-level investigation into those involved in the attack, which means more members of the Trump administration may be prosecuted.
