“Certified Lover Boy” is a certified hit with fans, but those who digged into the credits and analyzed the album couldn’t help but ignore the fact that disgraced singer R. Kelly is the author of the Album is listed.
It’s information that has morally divided fans amid R. Kelly’s history of alleged sexual abuse and predatory behavior and the fact that he is on trial for some of these alleged crimes.
According to Hot New Hip Hop, the credit is attributed to a Kelly sample that Drake used for his song “TSU,” which stands for Texas Southern University – a historically black college in the heart of Houston.
The sampled song in question is allegedly R. Kelly’s “Half on a Baby”. Justin Timberlake also happens to have write credit for the song.
Fans definitely questioned Drake’s decision to use an R. Kelly sample, especially given his love for the late Aaliyah, whom he has a tattoo of.
While some say it was a bad choice at best, others argued that Drake should be canceled for the move.
Music fans battled each other on social media, with some arguing that Kelly’s influence is hard to miss considering how much music he has produced and contributed to.
Your fair-skinned dad sampled an R-Kelly song for a song about college girls? Lmfaoooooooooo, how long have you all been away pretending he’s not a predator?

R. Kelly, currently on trial for the sexual abuse of countless black women and girls, is set to make money on the most anticipated album of the year thanks to Drake for giving him songwriting credit on #CertifiedLoverBoy
And that’s why both #CLB and #DONDA are rubbish.
