President Joe Biden will announce Monday that the US plans to send millions of additional doses of coronavirus vaccine to foreign countries still ravaged by the pandemic.
At least 20 million vaccine doses will be shipped by Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson by the end of June, Biden will announce in a Covid-centered speech at 1 p.m. ET, the White House said.
These plans come weeks after the White House announced it would send 60 million doses of AstraZeneca’s Covid vaccine to needy countries once the company’s shots are cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
In combination with the new shipments, the Biden administration intends to send a total of 80 million cans abroad within the next six weeks.
According to a senior government official, that number equates to five times more vaccines shared by the US than any other country.
