27 vaccinated folks examined optimistic for Covid on a Carnival cruise ship

According to the Belize Tourism Board, 27 people onboard a Carnival Vista cruise that docked in Belize on Wednesday tested positive for Covid-19.

Only one of the positive cases was a passenger and the remaining 26 were crew members. All 27 people have been vaccinated and have mild or no symptoms, the country’s tourism authority said.

Contact follow-up was conducted and no other positive cases were discovered.

On the ship, which sailed from Galveston, Texas, there are a total of 2,895 guests and 1,441 crew members, said the tourism association.

According to the Washington Post, Carnival announced last week that there were positive cases on board but did not disclose how many cases there were at the time.

“Carnival is managing a small number of positive COVID cases on Carnival Vista sailing out of Galveston. Even though our entire crew and almost all of our guests are vaccinated,” a Carnival Cruises spokesman said in a statement.

“We managed the situation using strict health protocols, which included isolating those who tested positive and close contacts in quarantine.”

As of Saturday, all guests, regardless of their vaccination status, must have a negative Covid test, Carnival said.

Carnival Cruises stocks fell more than 1% on Friday.
