Donald Trump held a few brief meetings and gave a speech full of his usual rambling incoherence in Ireland before getting to the point of his trip: This was a taxpayer-funded weekend to watch golf.

Trump was interested in his conversation with MBS and Saudi Arabia, but he made a detour to his party conference:

Well, I had my call to MBS. He’s a good friend of mine, and, uh, it’s going to… All I can say is that everything is going to work out fine and dandy. It’s going to be very good. I think it’ll… everything will work out fine. Uh, I would say shortly after… We had a great meeting. We went to Dallas, Texas. We had an interim conference.

It has never been done by either party and will likely become a staple. It was- Wow. It was so successful, so beautiful, and the arenas were packed both days, and honestly no one expected to ever see anything like it. It felt – I think it actually felt better than the so-called original conventions.

It was as good as it could be. And, and, and the Republicans had a good time. We had a good time. There are a lot of great people running for office, and they are sensible people. Uh, you know, we’re running, we’re running against a great madness. But we don’t have to accept that, we have to accept great madness. But we had a, a massive… That was a massive two day span.

The convention was a failure, but what really matters is that Trump had a good time.

The people of Ireland also had a lot of fun as they vigorously protested Trump’s arrival in their country.

There were mass protests in Dublin, with crowds chanting: “Donald Trump is not welcome here.”
