The Biden administration is quietly wiping tons of Trump misinformation out of the CDC

In the course of the coronavirus pandemic, Donald Trump regularly spat out misinformation and often published nonsense against science under the guise of CDC guidance.

Rachel Maddow reported Monday night that the Biden administration is quietly and quickly undertaking massive cleanups to rid the CDC of this anti-scientific “junk” that the Trump administration has left behind.

At the forefront of the effort is the CDC’s second-largest officer, Dr. Anne Schuchat, whom Trump silenced during his tenure.

“In the Biden administration she is allowed to have publicly accessible documents and appearances again,” said Maddow. “In fact, they immediately hired them to re-go through all of the CDC COVID guides and advice released during the Trump administration to make sure none of the junk survived.”

Maddow said:

We have a new president, a new administration that meant a new CDC director. And now, finally, today, without any fanfare, they started the cleanup. CDC number two, Dr. Anne Schuchat, who along with other CDC career scholars had been silenced under the Trump administration. Dr. Schuchat presented this very cautious report to the new CDC director, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, head of the CDC appointed by President Biden. And Schuchat was again one of the career scientists whose public statements and appearances were stopped by the Trump White House. Well, in the Biden administration she is again allowed to have publicly accessible documents and appearances. In fact, she was immediately tasked with going through all of the CDC COVID guides and advice released during the Trump administration to make sure none of the junk survived, taking out and removing anything that wasn’t there. It wasn’t really CDC science that the Trump administration insisted on being erased anyway. She was in charge of a review to identify and eradicate the rubbish that the Trump administration released, or diluted or otherwise corrupted with that agency on behalf of the CDC, to restore confidence to us, the public – us, the world can have what the CDC says about COVID.

Trump’s failure to lead with science resulted in loss of life and credibility

Donald Trump’s failure to lead with science is one of the main reasons the United States had the most COVID cases and deaths in the world.

But it’s also why a world-famous agency like the CDC lost so much credibility at a time when the American people needed it most.

The Biden government recognizes that the hundreds of thousands of Americans lost to this deadly virus cannot be brought back. However, restoring confidence in the CDC and renewed leadership in science may prevent further unnecessary deaths.
