Succession’s Jesse Armstrong shadows King Charles at Emmys

The Succession creator could win the crown for most embarrassing joke at the Emmy Awards.

successor Jess Armstrong turned on a jab King Charles III while standing onstage to accept the award for Outstanding Drama Series at the 2022 Emmys on September 12. Also nominated in the category this year were Better Call Saul, Euphoria, Ozark, Severance, Squid Game, Stranger Things and Yellowjackets. (See all 2022 Emmys winners here.)

At the ceremony that took place four days after the death of Queen Elizabeth the secondArmstrong made a joke about Charles’ succession to the throne.

Hinting that it has been “big for succession arrangements in Britain,” Armstrong said, “Obviously there are a little more votes involved in our victory than Prince Charles’s. I’m not saying we’re more legitimate than that position – we leave that to other people. We are incredibly grateful to have this wonderful honor.”

star brian cox appeared to try to put a stop to it by saying, “Keep it royalist, keep it royalist.”

Armstrong continued by shouting out his “extraordinary” cast and crew, which includes Jeremy Stark, Kieran Culkin, Sarah Schnook, Nicholas Brown and Matthew Macfadyen.
