JR Smith joins the North Carolina A&T males’s golf crew

Congratulations to JR Smith who is now officially an Aggie !! The former NBA star is now a student at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, NC, where he will play for the school’s men’s golf team.

According to Sports Illustrated, the NCAA officially decided on Tuesday that he was eligible to play for the NCAT men’s golf team.

Speaking during a press conference on Monday, JR shared his excitement for this new chapter in his life and said, β€œIt will be fun. Obviously different environments, from playing in front of 20,000 people to playing in a college golf gallery. But it’s still as nerve-wracking as taking a free throw before 5,000 instead of doing a 5-foot putt before three. So for me everything correlates in the same way. “

After 16 years in the league and two championship wrestlers, JR says he was drawn to A&T because of his interest in an HBCU. In 2004, he was drafted on the first round straight out of high school, which allowed him to skip the college athlete experience.

He also spoke to The Undefeated and said, β€œIt was probably one of the most exciting feelings I’ve had in a while. I really didn’t know how to do it. … but actually being able to call myself a student athlete is a great feeling. “
