In January it was announced that Josh would be replacing Armie Hammerwho was originally cast in the film. The shock caused a lot of chatter, considering that Armie stepped down from the role even after a scandal with unsubstantiated allegations about his sexual fantasies.
He has publicly denied the allegations.
“With all the vicious and bogus attacks against me online, I can’t now safely leave my children for four months to make a movie in the Dominican Republic,” Armie told E! News in a statement at the time. “Lionsgate supports me in this and I am grateful to them.”
Josh announced on Tuesday, May 11th that he had reached out to the Rebecca actor amid controversy.
“I know Armie a bit and when I knew I was going to get the role I emailed him and said, ‘Listen, I know you’re going through it, I don’t like roles like this and I get too I just wanted to let you know that I’m thinking of you and good luck, come on through, “Josh told Man About Town. “He sent me an email straight away saying thank you, so who knows, I hope he’ll get through.”
