President Joe Biden expects to run for re-election in 2024, signaling for the first time that he will seek a second term in the White House.

“My plan is to run for re-election. That is my expectation,” Biden told reporters on Thursday during his first press conference as president. He later reiterated that it was his “expectation” that he would try to serve a second term as president. At that time, Biden will be 81 years old.

It was the first time Biden publicly raised questions about whether he will run for the White House again. He took office in January as the oldest president at the time of his first inauguration.

Biden has not launched an official re-election campaign since he was sworn in on Jan. 20. Biden’s predecessor, former President Donald Trump, officially submitted documents to run for a second term shortly after beating Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election.

During his press conference, Biden also addressed immigration, infrastructure, and filibuster reforms.
