Ex-Trump lawyer Alan Dershowitz advises MyPillow CEO Lindell within the Dominion go well with

Former Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz advises attorneys to MyPillow CEO and electoral conspiracy theorist Mike Lindell on Dominion Voting Systems’ $ 1.3 billion libel suit against him.

But Dershowitz, the famous free speech advocate and former impeachment attorney for former President Donald Trump, insists he plays only a minor role in the trial.

“My role is extremely limited,” Dershowitz told CNBC on Tuesday in a phone call.

Dershowitz claimed that he “does not represent Lindell or MyPillow” and only advises on issues relating to the First Amendment that affect the case.

These remarks contradict the impression of Lindell, who had referred to Dershowitz as “part of the team” just the day before.

“I now have probably over 12 lawyers, including Alan Dershowitz,” Lindell said in a radio interview on Monday. “He came on board believing this will be the largest First Amendment lawsuit in history.”

Lindell made a similar claim in a separate Monday morning interview with ex-Trump adviser Steve Bannon.

“He’s on a team of lawyers,” said Lindell of Dershowitz on Bannon’s podcast, Mediaite reported.

Lindell did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment. A Dominion spokesman did not immediately make a comment.

Dominion, whose voting systems are certified in 28 states, filed a lawsuit against Lindell last month. The company accuses the pillow magnate of defaming Dominion and spreading false conspiracies about the 2020 presidential race for his own financial gain.

Lindell, a staunch Trump ally and strong advocate of Fox News, has repeatedly claimed that Dominion’s machines helped rig the 2020 election in favor of President Joe Biden.

Lindell “sells the lie to this day because the lie sells pillows,” said Dominion’s legal complaint.

Smartmatic, a separate electoral tech company, has filed its own billions-dollar defamation lawsuit against Fox and its hosts in New York State Court.

Dershowitz said Tuesday morning that he had been called by a member of Lindell’s legal team about a week earlier and asked if he was willing to consult her “on purely First Amendment issues” raised by Dominion’s lawsuit .

Dershowitz said he is not an attorney on record and does not advise Lindell or his team on jurisdiction issues or the possible counterclaims that Lindell has recently pissed off.

The civil record for Dominion’s case in Washington federal against Lindell, which is publicly available on the government’s PACER website, does not currently contain legal representation for MyPillow or its CEO.

Dershowitz highlighted his decades-long history of defending free speech for those he disagrees with.

He also noted that he had previously shared his belief that the first amendment protects Lindell’s claims.

“See if Lindell was right or wrong, he had the right to express his views and this is part of the public debate and I think not, unless you can show that he was deliberately maligning her, deliberately and knowingly defamed. ” I don’t think they’re going to make pillows out of them, “Dershowitz told Newsmax in late February.

Dominion says it spent more than $ 1.1 billion to protect its reputation “as a direct result of the virus disinformation campaign.”

The company had previously filed libel suits against Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani and pro-Trump attorney Sidney Powell.

The lawsuit against Lindell is “definitely not the last,” Dominion CEO John Poulos told CNBC last month.
