ChatGPT is not going to take over people

Nothing can beat the human mind — not even AI-powered chatbots like ChatGPT, says Narayana Murthy, founder of the Indian information technology services giant Infosysin an exclusive interview.

The internet is full of all the things ChatGPT can do, from writing essays to programming to talking like a human.

Launched in the US by OpenAI in November, ChatGPT has also spun clones – Chinese tech giants Alibaba and Baidu have released their own versions.

“ChatGPT is an excellent addition to knowledge generation for completing specific tasks, such as writing an essay,” Murthy told CNBC’s Tanvir Gill on the latest episode of The CNBC Conversation.

I firmly believe in the theory that the human mind is the most powerful imagination, machine. There is nothing that can beat the human mind.

The human spirit is what separates one from another, Murthy said.

“If there’s competition between you and me, use the ChatGPT output as a base, and then add your own differentiation, your own intelligence, your own tweaks,” Murthy continued. “And then the teachers will be much more impressed with you than me.”

“The lazy guys get C. Only smart people get A,” Murthy said. “That’s why I’m not so worried about ChatGPT.”

How NR Narayana Murthy founded Infosys

In 1981, Murthy and six other engineers founded Infosys with just $250 in initial capital. Infosys provides business consulting, information technology, software development and outsourcing services.

Today, the company has grown into a multi-billion dollar brand with a market capitalization of $62 billion and employs more than 346,000 people around the world, from Asia Pacific to North America to Europe and the Middle East.

Infosys was the first Indian company to be listed on Nasdaq in March 1999 and on the New York Stock Exchange in December 2012.

Murthy said he will use ChatGPT as a tool, as an assistant to get better work quality and performance – but not as a human substitute.

“Ultimately, I firmly believe in the theory that the human mind is the most powerful imagination, the machine. There is nothing that can beat the human spirit.”

According to Brand Finance’s Global 500 2023 report, Infosys is the third most valuable IT services brand in the world with a brand value of $13 billion, behind Accenture and Tata Consultancy Services.
