Boyz II males’s debut album ‘Cooleyhighharmony’ was launched 30 years in the past at present!
Roommates, 30 years ago today, released their debut album, ‘Cooleyhighharmony’, Boyz II Men, the best-selling R&B group of all time, and instantly became one of the largest groups in history. The album marked a change in the R&B groups and Boyz II Men set the stage for a run that would make history in the 1990s.
‘Cooleyhighharmony’ brought Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris, Shawn Stockman and Michael McCary together for their debut album, which was not only full of hits but also demonstrated the group’s unmatched vocal skills, highlighted by 4-part harmony.
The album sold a staggering 9 million copies, was nominated for two Grammy Awards, won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group, and also received a collection of American Music Awards. The first single from ‘Cooleyhighharmony’ was the upbeat dance track ‘Motownphilly’, followed by the beautifully sung, somber melody ‘It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.’ The last two singles on the album were the sexy “Uhh Ahh”, where Boyz II Men had fun losing their image as a good guy, and the soft anthem “Please Don’t Go”.
On social media, Boyz II Men celebrated the 30th anniversary of their debut album with a touching message. “Today is a special day. How do you encapsulate 30 years? Just a couple of Philly kids. I love you all for staying with us for so long. We can’t wait to come back to you,” read the contribution.
We know we still play this album like it just fell. Congratulations on 30 years!
