Transcript provided to PoliticusUSA by the White House Pool Report:

Peter Doocy: Do you consider all Trump supporters a threat to the country?

POTUS: Come on folks… I don’t see any Trump supporter as a threat to the country. I think everyone who calls for the use of violence, fails to condemn violence when it is used, refuses to recognize an election won, insists on changing the way we govern and count votes , poses a threat to democracy. Democracy.

Everything we stand for, everything we stand for rests on the platform of democracy. The people voted for Donald Trump and are now supporting him, they didn’t vote for an attack on the Capitol. They did not vote to overrule an election. They voted for a philosophy he proposed. So all I am saying is that it is inappropriate – and this is happening not only here but in other parts of the world – not to recognize and condemn violence whenever it is used for these purposes. Failure to condemn an attempt to rig election results. Not recognizing when elections are won or lost.

The President made an important distinction between Trump, elected Republicans and the people who elect them. Biden was right. People didn’t vote for Donald Trump because they wanted the Capitol attacked or secret documents stolen. People didn’t vote for Donald Trump because they wanted democracy destroyed.

Tens of millions didn’t vote for Trump because they thought the election was “rigged.”

Ever since the story of the classified documents exposed Trump, Fox News, some elected Republicans, and the conservative media have all gone into overdrive to personalize Trump’s behavior as a threat to the Republican base.

The latest attempt is to claim that Biden believes Trump supporters are a threat to America. It’s not true, and Peter Doocy’s question gave the President an opportunity to strongly rebuke the misinformation being disseminated by the right.
