The 5-foot-6 junior recorded a state Class 5A girls' qualifying time of 2 minutes, 25.60 seconds to win the gold medal in the 800-meter run at the Buddy Robertson Invitational's red-division meet at Milne Stadium Friday. The state cut is 2:26.70.

The Monarch was the District 5-5A silver medalist in the half-mile equivalent event last year.

Caroline, who resides in Tijeras, is the daughter of Yvonne Swartz and David Lewiecki.
