JOAN MAE BELL

Joan Mae Bell, 79, of Edgewood passed away at her home on Friday, Jan. 22. Joan was born Aug. 8, 1930, in Escanada, Mich., to George and Alva (Anderson) Hedsten. Joan lived in Edgewood for the past six years, coming from Albuquerque. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Edgewood. Joan was preceded in death by her parents; spouse, Jack Bell, who passed away in 1980; and daughter, Cynthia Terlaje. She is survived by her sons, James Bell and his wife, Kathleen, of California, Robert Bell and his wife, Deborah, of Maryland, David Bell and his wife, Mary, of Edgewood, Gerald Bell of Edgewood, Craig Bell and his wife, Imelda, of Edgewood, and Daniel Bell of Edgewood; daughters, Carol Smith of Maine, Jeanne Tidey of Los Lunas, and Andrea and her husband, Robert Rowland, of Edgewood; son-in-law, Ray Terlaje and his wife, Janine, of Colorado; sister, Marilyn LaMarche of California; 21 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. today at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Edgewood, with Pastor Phillip Spomer officiating.

VIRGINIA WILLIAMS O'NEAL

Virginia Williams O'Neal, was born Nov. 28, 1923, east of Moriarty at the home of her parents, John and Maggie Williams. Virginia died Sunday, Jan. 24.

She started school in Moriarty and graduated from Moriarty High School in 1940. Virginia and Lewis attended school together. They married June 27, 1942.

Lewis was called to World War II in August 1942. Virginia moved back in with her parents while Lewis was gone. Virginia taught school in Moriarty, while Lewis was in Germany.

Virginia made many adjustments in her life: Her brother Joe died in 1932; Virginia's mother died in May 1944. Lewis was wounded in August 1944 and wounded again in February 1945. This time his wounds left him totally blind. Lewis was discharged from the Army in December 1945. He came back to Moriarty, where he and Virginia lived ever since.

Her husband Lewis; parents; three brothers, Joe, Roy, Loyd; and one sister, Dorothy precede her in death.

Virginia is survived by her two daughters, Maggie Rose of Albuquerque, and Mollie and husband Bill Pittman of Moriarty; two granddaughters, Cassie and John Eisenberger of Clovis and Kyria and Cris Encinias of Hobbs; three great-grandchildren, Kade, Kinsey and Mollie; and one brother, Dan Williams of Moriarty.

The funeral service was Jan. 27 at the Moriarty Civic Center, with Pastor Glenn O'Neal officiating. Pallbearers were Bill Pittman, Ray Quintero, Kenneth Maese, Kade Pittman, Cris Encinias and John Eisenberer. Honorary pallbearers were Darlene Mayes, Connie Guinn and Chrissie Putback. Burial took place immediately after the service at Mountain View Cemetery in Moriarty. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Lions Club of Moriarty.

ERNEST "RED" BENJAMIN BARCLAY

Ernest "Red" Benjamin Barclay, 85, of Moriarty passed away Monday, Jan. 25, in Albuquerque. Red was born June 26, 1926, in Topeka, Kan., to Henry and Clara Belle (Mosley) Barclay. Red was a longtime resident of Moriarty. He married Iva Coffee on Valentine's Day 1987. He was a member of the VFW 3370 and 9354, and district commander of the American Leagon.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, William Barclay, Ed Barclay and Richard Barclay; and sisters, Elizabeth Stroder, Marie Barclay and Phyllis Watkins. Red is survived by his wife, Iva Barclay; stepdaughter Irene Morgigno; brother, Stuart Barclay; and sisters, Clare Belle Perkins, Dorothy Farr and Georgie Wilson.

There will be a memorial service at Harris-Hanlon Mortuary from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 1, followed by burial with military honors at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1 p.m. Pallbearers are Robert Barclay, William Barclay, Vince Tapia, Lloyd Vanderhoff, Ross Legon and Vergil Coffee.

JOEY ALLEN CHAVEZ

Joey Allen Chavez, 28, of Torreon passed away Sunday, Jan. 24. Joey was born Aug. 25, 1981, in Albuquerque to Mike and Virginia (Vigil) Chavez. Joey was a lifetime resident of Torreon. He graduated from Del Norte High School and was a member of the Believer Center of Albuquerque. Joey is survived by his parents, Mike and Virginia Chavez of Torreon; grandmother, Helen Chavez; brothers, Isaac Chavez and Sonia Vigil of Albuquerque, Michael Chavez Jr. and his wife, Natalie, of Albuquerque, and Anthony Chavez of Torreon; sisters, Angel Chavez, Luyine Chavez and Isaac Luna of Albuquerque, and Janell Gutierrez and her husband, James, of Torreon; and numerous aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be a Christian service at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at the Torreon Community Center. There will be a rosary at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, followed by Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Torreon, with Father William Young officiating. Burial will follow at the Torreon Cemetery. Pallbearers are Isaac Chavez, Michael Chavez Jr., Anthony Chavez, James Gutierrez, Juan Trujillo and Franky Vigil. Honorary pallbearers are Isaac Luna, Jordan Luna, Richard Weis, Juan Jantz and Raymond Luna.
