NICK WALLIN
Nick "PaPa" Wallin, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Jan. 14, 2010. He was born in Tucumcari on June 30, 1948, to Gayland and Peggy Wallin. Nick married his life-long love, Debi, in 1968. Nick began his career with Stern and Rodgers, then later began his own business Wallin Construction. He went on to become a successful businessman. In his life he gave away more than he ever took and he always thought of his family first. Debi and Nick retired and moved to Las Vegas, Nev., in 1997. Nick is survived by his wife of 40 years, Debi; his son, Keith (Casey) Wallin; daughter, Lynn (Dave) Parker, and the loves of his life — his four grandchildren, Craig, Emily, Kaleb and Peyton. He is also survived by his four brothers Dennis (Marcie), Kenny (Cherie), Don (Susan), and Scott (Laura); his cousins and his many nephews and nieces. PaPa was loved and will be extremely missed by all his family and friends. Memorial services were held at the Canyon Ridge Christian Church in Las Vegas, Nev., on Jan. 20. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital. ANNIE MAE CARDWELL Annie Mae Cardwell, 92, of Sandia Park passed away at her home on Jan. 9, 2010. Annie was born in Celina, Texas on May 17, 1917, to John Wesley and Janie Florence (Blanchard) O'Dell. She married Homer Lee Cardwell, who preceded her in death in 1992. Annie lived in Moriarty for the past 5 1/2 years, having previously lived in Sandia Park and Rhome, Texas. Annie is survived by her daughter Becky Cox and her husband Furman of Sandia Park; brother, Robert O'Dell and his wife Barbara; sister, Dorothy Lee; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will take place in Fort Worth, Texas. Harris-Hanlon Mortuary CAYETANO ANDRES CHAVEZ JR. Cayetano Andres Chavez Jr., 49, passed away at his home in Moriarty on Jan. 13, 2010. Cayetano was born to Cayetano L. Chavez Sr. and Simona Trujillo on Jan. 16, 1960, in Vaughn. Cayetano was a lifetime resident of Moriarty. He graduated from Moriarty High School in 1979. He was a member of the National High School Rodeo Association for many years. Cayetano was preceded in death by his parents, Cayateno and Simona Chavez; brother, Antonio Chavez Sr. and sister, Martha DuGan. He is survived by his wife, Julia Chavez; children, Kristian Chavez of Albuquerque, BeAnna Chavez of Albuquerque, Sky Chavez of Moriarty, and Tiffany Chavez of Moriarty; grandchild, Chad Mortensen; brothers, Joe Chavez and his wife Jane, Albert Chavez and his wife ClaraBelle, Carlos Chavez and his wife, Leslie, all of Moriarty; sisters, Frances Cuellar and her husband Mario of Alabama, Maria Thompson and her husband Dave of Texas, Delores Carson of Texas, and Elena Chavez and her husband Donald of Rio Rancho; sister-in-law, Mary Louise Chavez; uncle, Manuel Chavez; aunts, Florinda Encinias and Celina Encinias; and in-laws, Richard and Kay Eager. There was a rosary at the Moriarty Civic Center on Jan. 17 followed by the funeral service with Pastor Tom Schenk officiating. Pallbearers were Al Trujillo, Jerry Trujillo, Leroy Greer, Steve Chavez, Joe W. Torres Jr., and Chano Chavez. Honorary Pallbearers were Albert Chavez, Joe Chavez, Carlos Chavez, Tony Chavez Jr., Chad Mortensen, Joseph Chavez, Lucas Chavez, Dustan Moyers, Frankie Encinias, Donny Carson, and Jose Chavez. Burial of cremains were at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery on Jan. 18. Harris-Hanlon Mortuary ERNEST JAKE PEREA Ernest Jake Perea, 43, of Cedar Grove passed away peacefully on Jan. 15, 2010, in Shiprock. Ernest was born on May 17, 1966, in Albuquerque to Jake and Reyes (Larranaga) Perea. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Edgewood. Ernest is survived by his parents, Jake and Reyes Perea of Cedar Grove; sons, Ernesto J. Perea of Albuquerque and Robert J. Perea of Cedar Grove; grandmother, Flora Vigil of Santa Fe; brothers, Joseph E. Perea and his wife Christina, and their children Noah and Alina of Chantilly, Va.; sister, Judith E. Rivera and her husband Robert and their children, John, ReyAnn and Jacob of Phoenix; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. There was a rosary on Jan. 18 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Edgewood. The funeral mass was on Jan. 19 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Edgewood. Msgr. Richard Olona and the Rev. William will celebrated the Mass of Resurrection. Pallbearers were Ernest Perea, Phillip Larranaga, Albert Michael Thomas, Edward Larranaga, Arnold Murphy, Alan Larranaga, Mark Larranaga, Neil Villanueva. Honorary Pallbearers were Thomas Valasquez, Steve and Robert Ortiz, James Lyons, Art Tapia, Delbert and Joey Garcia, Phillip and Mark Jaramillo, Brian Archibeque, Andy Larranaga, Greg Smith, Dean and Matthew Larranaga, Greg and Jerome Marez, Eric and Ernest Perea, Chris Duran, Max Louis Lopez, Roy Glenn and Justin Gibson, and All of EJ's cousins and friends. Burial ceremonies will be held at the Larranaga cemetery at Red Hills. Harris-Hanlon Mortuary HENRIETTA TORRES BARELA Henrietta Torres Barela, 79, passed on to her heavenly home on Jan. 13, 2010, after a long illness. She was born in Willard to Maria and Simon Torres, who preceded her in death along with her week-old baby girl, Domitilia Maria; her sisters Leonor Chavez, Lucia Montoya and her brother Gilbert Torres. She lived in Mountainair before moving to California with her surviving husband Gregorio Barela. She is also survived by her sons Thomas and Michael; grandsons Greg and Michael; her brother Jose Torres; her doting sister Rita Griego and many nephews and nieces. She was very active in her Parish Church Santa Philomena. Services were held at Green Hills Mortuary at Ranchos Palos Verdes on Jan. 20. BETTYE HURETA ALTER Bettye Hureta Alter was called home by her Savior on Jan. 17, 2010. She was residing in El Paso. Bettye was born June 17, 1920, on a farm near Francis, Okla. Her parents were August and Paulina Doner. Bettye and her twin sister were the youngest of 13 siblings. The most important event in Bettye's life occurred at age 15, when she first put her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Bettye graduated from East Central State College in Ada, Okla., and began her chosen vocation, teaching elementary students. During World War II, she interrupted her teaching career to become "Rosie the Riveter," helping construct ships in Oakland, Calif. She also served this country as a file clerk in the FBI's Washington office. In 1948, Bettye married Joe Alter of Willard. This union produced four sons. In 1965, she returned to teaching, serving in the Mountainair, Los Lunas and Belen school districts. Bettye was a wholesome influence on hundreds of children. She had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Belen. She then moved to El Paso due to failing health in 2004. She received attentive care at Lighthouse Foster Care of El Paso, with constant loving support from her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Linda. She is survived by her twin sister, Dottie Caldwell of Lithonia, Ga.; son, George Alter and his wife Shila of Rio Rancho; son, David Alter of San Antonio, Texas; son, Charles Alter and his wife Linda of El Paso; son, Don Alter and his wife Kathy of Elmore, Ohio; grandsons: Nathan, Ethan, Ty and Ben Alter; granddaughters: Amanda Lewis, Terri Alter, Cari Witte, Christi Dunn, Meredith Amelung and Bethany Alter. She was also blessed with 13 great-grandchildren. There will be a graveside service at Terrace Grove Cemetery, 1200 West Aragon Road in Belen on Jan. 23 at 10:30 a.m. SHIRLEY FAYE FALVEY Shirley Faye Falvey, 85, beloved mother and grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 15. She was born on Feb. 15, 1924, in Jonesburg, Mo. She was truly an angel and will be greatly missed. She lived in the Estancia Valley for the past 26 years, with residences in McIntosh and Estancia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Pauline and Edmund Emanuel Osteryoung. She is survived by her husband John, son Edmund and wife Paula, daughter Kathleen, son Michael and wife Suzzanne, grandson Mark Shell, and granddaughter Michelle. Graveside services were held at the McIntosh Cemetery on Jan. 18. |
